The first thing to do is to prepare the BBQ grill. If you are using a charcoal BBQ get it lit as you normally would and if you are using gas start the burners going. Once you have a decent amount of heat going or your charcoal has turned grey you are ready to go! Dust your pizza peel, add your pizza and toppings to your peel and you’re ready to add it to the pizza oven.

My pizza featured a healthy helping of mozzarella, chorizo, salami and tomatoes, and tasted better than any supermarket or takeaway pizza I’ve ever had, with a slightly smoked taste from the barbecue, crisp base, and juicy toppings that were full of flavour. BBQ pizza ovens do not get as hot as traditional pizza ovens but they can be as hot as 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Nonetheless, this all depends on the type of fuel that you use on the grill where you put it. Your pizza shouldn’t take too long to cook so it’s best to rotate the pizza using the peel or a spatula every 20-30 seconds.
