About this deal

Too mortified to confess that her apartment is stuffed with clothes — a dangerous, suffocating, hoarder quantity of clothes — Sophie gets dumped. The piles of designer clothes Sophie accumulates become towering mountains, impossible to scale so that everyday life can continue. The Play’s the Thing UK is committed to covering fringe and progressive theatre in London and beyond.

Based on her own experience, Horton’s beautiful script weaves Sophie’s building obsession and life story with the burgeoning love with Jo, whose wardrobe consists of an old school tie, three pairs of shoes (and one on we assume) and the bare minimum of clothing on one short rail. Perhaps this could remain a guilty secret, except all these possible versions of Sophie start to become a problem as she downsizes – and downsizes again. Full-length plays include: Labyrinth Diet, The Space, London 2021, ONCOMM winner; Triptych, Theatre Royal Plymouth, 2021. It's been a joyful process so far; being able to be so open has made me feel braver, and that I shouldn't be ashamed about my hoarding or any part of who I am. Director Stephanie Kempson keeps the show dynamic, using the set of clothing rails well to create a feeling of claustrophobia and intensity when needed.

In those early years, some of the thrill came from finding name brands that would help her fit in better with the kids at school. Both felt it was an accurate reflection of their lives, far removed from the casual treatment of hoarders on TV who are often shown as living in piles of vermin infested rubbish, with ‘a cure’ being as simple as chucking house contents in a skip and a jolly good clean. Inspired by her own experience of clothes hoarding, this monologue by Laura Horton is a gentle story of accepting and managing mental health issues. I had a few panicked moments, but once I got into it, it was lovely to realise these clothes would be worn, would have new life.

Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. It’s hard, I won’t lie about that, I would never have been able to do this in my twenties, and I never would have been able to do this if I still lived in London and had to pay such insane rent, down in Plymouth it’s easier because the cost of living is lower. This spring BIPC Devon is focusing on how we can support female entrepreneurs to turn their passion into profit!

Aftermath:” An Interview with Piper Theatre’s Daniel McKamey, Pance Pony, James Clements, and Bailey Nassetta. Its only issue is that in the never-ending sea of one-person plays, Breathless doesn't quite stand out as much as it could. Plymouth’s Laureate of Word 2021–22, Laura Horton, tackles the difficult issue of hoarding in a refreshingly honest and a most engaging 65-minutes which collected a Fringe First award in Edinburgh this year.Breathless is at times very descriptive, telling rather than showing, but MacMahon brings the world of sample sales to life with a captivating twinkle in her eye. We do this by creating and presenting a breadth of shows on a range of scales, with our extensive creative engagement programmes, by embracing the vitality of new talent and supporting emerging and established artists, and by collaborating with a range of partners to provide dynamic cultural leadership for the city of Plymouth.
