Maybe Clinton and media really needed a scandal like that happen to distract people from gruesome Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act? To me, as a very infrequent visitor to America, the reality, for example, of the “open carry” gun rules, was a new insight.

He has travelled extensively across the US and recently rode a Harley Davidson down the West Coast (that wasn't for work though). The lawyers will advise you what states have no income tax for teachers; The lawyers will advise you on the procedure routine you have to go through just for getting permission to board a train together with your pooch! The Four Seasons hotel chain are missing out as foreign delegations feel it prudent to stay at Trump Tower! Proclaiming you have a special relationship with god and read the Bible every night doesn’t make you a good person and it certainly doesn’t make you presidential material…except in America. The media detached public from racial segregation in quite a funny way: virtually took people back into 1957 when some black students were illegally banned from attending class at Little Rock High School. The author goes to some lengths to demonstrate how much more religious Americans are than any other Western country. Sopel does a great job of enlightening British readers on some of the realities of life and attitudes in the USA, while at the same time giving American readers interesting insights into the way others see us.

He lets loose on Conservative Christianity, race, mass shootings, isolationism, the media and the role of government.Nonetheless, it is nice to have your impressions confirmed by someone who actually knows what he is talking about.

And yet, if your drug of choice is manufactured by one of the big drug companies and advertised on TV, it seems that you can get addicted to it with impunity. Overall I found this to be an entertains, occasionally amusing and often insightful look at life on the other side of the pond. Another way to distract people’s attention is to inflate a huge balloon, of red color and with inscription “PATRIOTISM” on it. They are not in the job of opposing Trump, and it should not be necessary for the journalist corps to have police protection. Everyone has photo ID, except for young people (who could easily apply for it) and a few ancient people who don't even have birth certificates. At the end of the book I was no clearer on whether Sopel, as a four year resident of Washington DC is an America - phile or an America -phobe . Let me start out by saying if you are a fan in any way of Donald Trump this book is not going to be one for you and I will wish you a good day. You may well think you've already read enough about Donald Trump, and whilst this book is a pretty decent second draft of history as it stood in July 2017, I honestly think there's much here that'll stay relevant long after the 45th president. The picture of the book is correct and matches my ISBN, but the title does not match the ISBN (nor the picture). There were some really interesting facts in here, and I particularly enjoyed Sopel’s personal insights into his first hand experiences of presidents and US political coverage (although it needed more of these).
