As a child he had been obsessed with how other ITV regions differed from Granada, poring over the contrasting schedules. With the exception of a brief appearance on Strictly Come Dancing that year, Peter all but disappeared from the public eye. It was throughly enjoyable because he obviously would be sitting in his home, sitting down to read his quota for the day and would start rambling about whatever came to mind. The Channel 4 series began in November 2004 and although it only ran for one series is fondly remembered by fans.

Parky: Our next guest used to be my warm-up man and he used to say to me, ‘One day I’m gonna walk down those stairs and be a guest on your show’. Something about this memoir reminds me of that episode of 30 Rock when Tracey remembers he has a memoir due to the publisher the next day. Peter Kay's unerring gift for observing the absurdities and eccentricities of family life has earned himself a widespread, everyman appeal. I find that having to read “joke” every three sentences is a real put off particularly when the joke is not funny. I loved hearing how close he was to his family, how he loved being at home, his favourite tea of chicken Kiev, chips, beans and a fried egg (must try that).

His first live stand up special Live at the Top of the Tower in 2000 also made him a mainstream star.

Peter Kay's new autobiography, which will focus on his work in the world of television, will be published in September 2023. The next thing I knew I had Sir Michael Parkinson, Sir Michael Caine and Sir David Attenborough stood round, all having a go at fastening my tie. Okay, so far this isn't weird ;) But then, after one day (or something close) he decides it's not for him and he phones his mother. A tweet on the book’s publisher’s account read: ‘Peter’s hilarious new book will be his first memoir in 14 years and follows his lifelong obsession with watching and working in television. He’s now shared even more brilliant news for fans to coincide with World Book Day on Thursday, announcing the release of his new book TV: Big Adventures on the Small Screen. However, until then he largely been out of the public eye, after cancelling his 2017 tour due to "unforeseen family circumstances". A spin off after Phoenix Nights, Max and Paddy’s Road To Nowhere featured Kay and Paddy McGuinness as two Bolton doormen Max Bygraves (Kay) and Paddy O’Shea (McGuinness) as they tour around the UK in their campervan. Kay co-created and starred in the cult British series from 2001 to 2002, playing Brian Potter, the owner of a working men’s club in Bolton. In his brilliant new book, Big Adventures on the Small Screen, Kay talks us through what he says are his “TV memories and adventures”.

One guy, in a Mickey Mouse or Colonel Ghadafi mask points a sawn-off shotgun at him and tells him "Get Down! The Amarillo singer kicked off his residency at the O2 Arena in December, and will continue performing the monthly series all the way through until April 2025 making him the first artist to do so at the venue. Discussing recording it at home, Kay said: "Audible said it was fine, so that made everything much more relaxed. Peter’s 2010 tour still officially ranks with the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest selling comedy tour of all time.As a memoir the plot suffers from being a report of the truth which in the case of Mr Kay seems to be surprisingly dull. For the most part the focus is on his life before fame and we mostly hear of his long list of part time jobs. Noddy said that he was from working-class roots and spent most of his early career chasing the money.
