Description

It really was an incredible voice performance and I highly recommend the audiobook as a medium for taking in this story.

In fact, there is even a portion at the end that overlaps with the timeline from that original movie. In this story, set in 1967-London, we follow a 16-year old, Estella, Cruella's true name, as she branches out for the first time and tries to find her place in the world. Don't forget something, sweeties: Distinguish yourselves. It's the most important message in this book. Pedersen, Erik (March 9, 2022). "Costume Designers Guild Awards: 'Dune', 'Cruella' & 'Coming 2 America' Take Film Prizes – Winners List". Deadline . Retrieved March 12, 2022. As a fan of Truly Devious series I was truly hopeful about this story and it was great to get an arc copy at the same day the trailer of the movie goes viral ! ( but as far as I see Emma Stone is nothing near to Ms. Johnson’s Estella portrait we can easily sympathize with! )Ahora en cuanto a contenido, el libro está muy bueno, obviamente tiene escenas y explica cosas que en la película no quedan tan claras. El desarrollo de la protagonista es muy bueno y el acceder su mente resulta muy interesante.

Emma Thompson as the Baroness: The narcissistic, authoritarian, and egotistical head of a prestigious London fashion house and a renowned haute couture designer, who is Estella's new boss and eventual rival. She plays a key role in Estella's transformation. Emma Thompson in Talks to Join Emma Stone in Disney's 'Cruella' (EXCLUSIVE)". Variety. May 14, 2019. Archived from the original on June 26, 2019 . Retrieved August 1, 2019. El Capitan Theatre presents Disney's "Cruella" starting May 28". May 14, 2021. Archived from the original on May 14, 2021 . Retrieved May 14, 2021. It seems like the film will probably be more visual and spectacle and the author wasn't sure how to translate that to the book. The novel is VERY bland and choppy, sequences don't seem to naturally flow into one another and characters are very stiff and wooden. Sometimes motivations make no sense which I will explain next with a spoiler tag. Beginning when she is just a young child, Evil Thing explores the key relationships in Cruella's life, particularly that with her Mama, Father and Anita.

Directed by Craig Gillespie—who does a discount Scorsese, keeping the camera flying and the phonograph needles dropping, much as he did in " I, Tonya"—"Cruella" awkwardly combines a couple of popular modes. One is the origin story of a long-lived, brand-name character that didn't need an origin story: think " Solo: A Star Wars Story," " Pan," and the third Indiana Jones (the opening sequence of “The Last Crusade" showed Indy acquiring his whip, his chin scar, his hat, and his fear of snakes in the space of 10 minutes). Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. And Thompson gives it everything’s she’s got – which is a considerable amount, and then some – as an imperious fashion designer called the Baroness with a prestige outlet at Liberty’s department store in London’s stately West End. Young Estella idolises this aristocrat of couture because she wants to be a fashionista just like her. So when supportive Jasper and Horace fake her a CV, claiming that she played polo with Prince Charles, Estella nabs a Cruella-de-Vil-wears-Prada apprenticeship with this grande dame. But then she is consumed with a need to destroy her haughty mentor, to reinvent herself as a punk-genius brand-named “Cruella”; it’s all got something to do with Estella’s poor, well-meaning mum, played by Emily Beecham, and the Baroness’s ferocious three Dalmatians to which Estella takes a dislike. Before I begin this review, I want to make it clear that this book has a reading age of 10+ but is really aimed at anyone who enjoyed the movie. I for one, adored the movie, hence the reason for buying this book. I didn’t, however, enjoy the novelisation.

Written by author Maureen Johnson of the Truly Devious series, this novel is a more modern take on Cruella De Vil. She's blinded by the money and social circle, thinking she can use their friendship as a jumping off point for getting her name, and fashion designs, out in the world. Tangcay, Jazz (January 24, 2022). "Art Directors Guild 2022 Nominations Headed by 'Nightmare Alley,' 'Cruella,' 'No Time to Die,' 'In the Heights' ". Variety . Retrieved January 24, 2022. Being a person who doesn’t enjoy writing or reading, I found this book was able to keep my attention, even with my very short attention span. The flow and pace were perfect and the characters were intriguing. The Baroness’ narcissism, Cruella intensity, and Jasper's good heart all create a impeccable cast of characters in a roller coaster of a plot, in a good way. The conflict between Cruella and the Baroness is fun to read and their intensity is so similar to each other, you’d think they were related.

The beginning part with her mom. What happened?! I need to know more. Who did she run from? Why? Does the movie answer any of these questions?! The found family with Jasper & Horace. It was kind of endearing to think these two bad guys took Cruella under their wing.
