David Benson’s impression (unseen) of Kenneth Williams was impeccable and made me grin from ear to ear. At the request of his fan and friend Bill Kenwright he will join the cast of Britain’s favourite rock ‘n roll musical “Dreamboats and Petticoats” – this time playing the father of a wannabe pop star! Wanted a CD but not one with the original tracks and although I'm not a fan of recordings with applause, it didn't seem to matter. And even if you’re not of that certain age, then you can still take this rock and roll monster of a session with my blessing, dust over those dancing shoes, and travel back to an era when the world seemed to look far better than it does today and the heavy incense of hope filled the air. It was first performed at The Churchill Theatre in Bromley, England, in February 2009, followed by a UK tour.

Productions [ edit ] London (2009–2013) [ edit ] The Savoy Theatre where the musical was first performed in London. Bringing On Back The Good Times features the original characters from Dreamboats and Petticoats and features the same wit, charm, and songs from the golden era of Rock ’n’ Roll. this show is a delight from start to finish with an excellent cameo by a familiar face of the 60s Mark Wynter - and he's still got charisma!Further casting includes AJ Dean as Ray, Jennifer Biddall as Sue, Emma Hatton as Donna, David Cardy as Older Bobby, Patrick Burbridge as Derek, Sophie Byrne as Daisy/Brenda, Deborah Hewitt as Helen, Robin Johnson as Barry and Michael Kantola as Colin. Bobby and Sue break up when Bobby accidentally causes Sue to fall out his bedroom window, but when he approaches Laura to reconcile, she claims that he only started to notice her because she's started dressing nicer and doing her hair.

Dreamboats and Petticoats, the book, is a nostalgic journey back to the age of espresso bars, skiffle and Mecca dance halls.Overlooked is sweet Laura (Daisy Wood-Davis who has not yet done much, but should), who not only wants to be Bobby's girl (cue song), but who also happens to be a 16-year-old song-writing genius who can help Bobby win the National Youth Songwriting competition. Malvern gave it a rapturous roar at the walkdown last night – many that could, stood and others waved sticks and banged Zimmer frames approvingly. In addition to producing, Kenwright also directs – which he does with the affectionate touch of one who has obviously loved and lived in that halcyon era. The undoubted star comic turn was Norman (played by Joseph Lukehurst) with genuinely lol-worthy moments with a pram and also his breakup song’s histrionics.
