About this deal

The contents of the game box also don’t seem to justify the price of Skyrim The Adventure Game. The box includes an enormous game board, smaller character boards, six plastic miniatures, various game tokens, dice, and over 800 cards. These cards cover the majority of the gameplay, featuring quests, monsters for dungeons, characters, items, upgrades, events, and rules reference cards. In this endlessly replayable game of branching quests and mysteries to uncover, you take on the role of a brave Adventurer, in co-op or solo adventures with hundreds of hours of gameplay.

When exploring a Dungeon, what’s the difference between escaping after an Encounter and escaping during Combat? If one or more players decide to leave the dungeon in between encounters (i.e. if there’s no face-up card in the dungeon) there’s no penalty for this decision. However, if a player escapes during Combat, they will have to assign a threat token to one of their cards or to the Stronghold chart. The players must keep an eye out as the threat increases across Skyrim as Dragons, Daedra, Trolls, and more roam the lands and wreak havoc across the holds. Players need to work together to keep the lands free, whilst balancing the demands of their most important quests. Speaking of levelling up, the mechanics for character builds also yield disappointment. One of the greatest parts of the Skyrim videogame is its sandbox element. Sure, you always end up playing a sneaky archer, but you could create any manner of characters with diverse talents. The very clear draw of the Skyrim: Adventure Game, apart from the licence, is in how players can develop their characters throughout their playthrough. There won’t be any Dragonborn on the board - the first campaign takes place 25 years before the original video game, whilst the next happens concurrently with those events but not directly part of them - but players will be able to choose what kind of character they want to cultivate, regardless of which starting species they begin with. Players can certainly lean into the advantages their species have, which are unfortunately a continuation of reductive ideas that many RPG-inspired board games have around race, but they’re not restricted to them. Players are not restricted to certain paths; instead, they are free to develop their characters however they wish.

Skyrim: The Adventure Game is a resettable legacy experience that allows you to delve into Tamriel’s past, battle foes, hoard treasures and thwart a plot that threatens the whole of Skyrim. Skyrim - The Adventure Game is set long before the events of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Players take on the role of Blades, agents of the emperor driven north by conflict in the heart of Cyrodiil. Across three scenarios, one to four players must work to mitigate a violent civil war, and then uncover a conspiracy before time runs out. The narrative plays out using a sequence of numbered cards, not unlike the sprawling cooperative horror game The 7th Continent, or the tight and agile narrative engine at the heart of Fantasy Flight Games’ Fallout. You are surviving members of the Blades, a legendary group who long protected the Empire of Tamriel! Abandoned by your former allies, you must work together with your fellow adventurers to defeat enemies, embark on intriguing quests and face the looming threat that seeks to destroy everything you swore to protect. I have The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms and a lot of Nord minis. Can we play with more than one character of the same type? The game was created with the idea of each player with a different character type. Although it’s not forbidden to play with more than one character of the same type, the players will have to share the character card of that specific type as reference. This demo of the first first Campaign lets play either a prequel tutorial, or the 1-4 player first, second or third Chapter's of Campaign 1, you will need to read the set up instructions as all the components are provided but not set up for Chapter 1.

I love the double-layer boards, which hold my hard-won experience, gold, soul gems, and alchemical items all in one place. I love the little miniatures, including a charming Khajiit. The only thing missing, in my opinion, is a little home somewhere in the mountains that I can fill up with cups and bowls and butterfly wings. But the gameplay itself is brisk, relatively simple, and a whole lot of fun.One of the players I started playing the campaign with cannot attend the next session. Is it possible to “freeze” his character for the session and keep on playing? Unfortunately, no. The game is structured so that the number of players affects some setup requirements, therefore changing the number of players could result in the chapter not being finished. In that situation, we recommend asking the other players to use their character cooperatively. Seems I overlooked the “remove the token” part on the cards, if I didn’t misread it as “adding a threat token” instead… Sorry about that! Can I move before or after using a carriage (paying for moving from one Stronghold to another)? No. Players must start and end their movement phase in Strongholds when using a carriage, and may not use any movement points during the Movement phase. Whilst we will do everything we can to meet the delivery times above, there may be factors outside of our control and we cannot guarantee delivery within this time frame.

A demo of the upcoming board game is currently available to play for free on Tabletop Simulator - a video game that enables players to interact with dice, cards and other tabletop components digitally - which myself and Wheels were recently guided through by Chris Birch, co-founder of Modiphius. It’s almost exactly what you’d expect from a completely faithful tabletop adaptation of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In this endlessly replayable game of branching quests and mysteries to uncover, you take on the role of a brave Adventurer, in co-op or solo adventures with hundreds of hours of gameplay. Build your unique character, upgrade your equipment, delve into dungeons and travel across the Holds of Skyrim. Gain experience, find treasures and battle Draugr, Daedra, Dragons and more. Play through six chapters of two hugely replayable campaigns spanning 25 years in the history of Tamriel. Build your unique character, upgrade your equipment, delve into dungeons and travel across the Holds of Skyrim. Gain experience, find treasures and battle Draugr, Daedra, Dragons and more.Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands) may take longer to reach you. Whenever a monster is prompted to move towards a Stronghold, the card or event that prompts that movement also specifies what happens when the monster reaches the Stronghold. For example, the Event “Daedric Invastion” says: “Move one Daedra token toward the nearest Stronghold. The game’s plot promises a prequel to the events of Skyrim that focuses on the Blades, an organisation of dragon hunters and general protectors of the land of Tamriel. I expected campaign narratives that would significantly build upon the existing world, but Skyrim the Adventure game offers thin, minimalistic writing that expects you to be content with name-drops to lore you’ll already have learned from playing the videogame. If it’s been a while since you’ve played Skyrim and you can’t really remember who the Blades are, the game isn’t going to wait around to explain it to you. I have four World Quests already in play and I draw another one, which one do I need to fail? The players may choose which World Quest to fail.

How many actions can I take in a Stronghold? Each player can take one main action — resolving a City Card or completing a quest — and then they can visit the market. Visiting the market allows the players to sell and buy, craft, upgrade and/or enchant their equipment. When taking threat from an event, does the Starting player have to assign it to their own cards? No. Unless specifically stated, Threat can be assigned freely among all players or the Stronghold Chart, with no requirement from the Starting player to assign any of it to their own cards. The main way that players interact with the game is through pursuing quest lines that are triggered by players drawing campaign cards at the beginning of the game. This aspect of Skyrim: Adventure Game is actually quite impressive, as quest lines are randomly assigned to players - as if their character has stumbled across this storyline in their own unique way - before smoothly leading from one quest into the next via a kind of choose-your-own-adventure-style system. The Skyrim board game comes with a collection of miniatures representing various different species. The board is a little too big, and most of the game’s tokens are tiny and difficult to distinguish from one another. The way the game’s cards are organised for play is one of the game’s strongest and most interesting features, but the rulebook has very little guidance on how to set them up for your first game, adding frustration to what could have been a delightful setup experience.

Imagine you’re climbing the face of a six-sided pyramid,” Modiphius founder Chris Birch said in an interview, “and we’re all climbing towards the top; one big finale. But on my pyramid, I can go up the right, I can go up the left, I can go up the center. So I’ve got multiple choices to get to the top of my side of the story with my play style. But there are six other sides.”
