In this case, Brooks realized they hit pretty darn close to the mark with the 16s and 17s and haven’t changed much. The tongue and heel cup are plush, but not overly padded, which feels great on foot and distributes any pressure points. The Glycerin has been using the same DNA Loft midsole foam for the past 4 versions with very subtle changes in midsole foam density in each version.

The toe box and upper are roomy and breathable even with a second layer of mesh and accommodate wide feet. Compared to the other max-cushioned trainers, the Glycerin 19’s ride is a tad firmer but it is more stable because there is less lean bias.

There are two, small reflective triangle windows on the heel for low-light visibility from the rear. Of course, depending on the type of running you participate in, there may be more specialized running shoes that provide more comfort for that purpose, but as a general daily trainer, the Glycerin takes the prize, as long as the shoe fits.

Some runners prefer firmer shoes because they are more stable and more responsive but the problem is that the advertising for the Glycerin is misleading. A neutral shoe makes up roughly 80% of available running shoes and have the same level of cushioning in the heel and the forefoot making it suitable for a large section of runners. The Glycerin works best as a daily road running shoe, but can really handle anything if you push it. In the midsole, Brooks uses their Omega Flex Grooves as a way to increase the flexibility and help with the responsiveness of the material. If there isn’t enough room for the foot to breathe then it will cause friction against the inside of the shoe and eventually lead to blisters.Because training isn’t enough, he gets to chase around his almost 2-year-old daughter when he gets home from work and runs. The amount of stiffness in this shoe is perfect for being responsive on your run and giving you a spring-like recoil as you push off. It adheres to the foot exceptionally well, so there's very little lost energy despite its supple build.

The breathable upper provided an accomodating yet secure hold of the foot, and the durable rubber outsole offered long-lasting traction without feeling stiff or hard underfoot.Brooks support technologies aid high deviators by guiding their body back into their natural way of moving. Get prepared to pound the pavement with our choice of running accessories such as lights, sunglasses, GPS watches, and more. It's a nice, subtle coercion where you barely notice that your feet get back to reasonable placement.

The Glycerin has flex grooves that stop halfway through the forefoot and results in a forefoot that isn’t as flexible as the forefoot of the Ghost. At The Runner’s World Shoe Summit back in November (days before the New York City Marathon), a Brooks rep holding the 18 in his hands said what could be regarded as the Glycerin’s slogan: “More comfort means faster running.
