This time it took a few pages in before I could say I enjoyed it but my goodness, literally I could not turn the pages quick enough to see what was going to happen.

Written with a clear and non-judgemental insight into the human psyche, the story gathers pace and left me breathless. This book is a masterclass in perfectly-timed plot reveals, 3D characters and a very clever what-can-possibly-happen-next atmosphere that keeps you turning those pages. She always makes it clear where in the story we are though so despite the back and forth I never feel lost.Like the other Dorothy Koomson novels I’ve read ( The Brighton Mermaid and I Know What You’ve Done), My Other Husband is mainly set in Brighton where the author lives. Never one to rest on her laurels, Dorothy Koomson really takes things to another level with My Other Husband. Somehow the first few chapters read like any other women's fiction book to me, especially because I chuckled quite a few times.

I did like some of the characters, especially Sidney, but felt that a good story became a little fantastical when all was said and done. Rating: Thank you to the publishers for a free advanced copy and the goodies in the photo below in exchange for an honest review. We know that Cleo is choosing to implode her own life, which seems to be going well, and we find out why through chapters dispersed throughout the current timeline that provide us the background that leads to her current situation.Hanging out with her best friend Trina and trying to persuade geeky Heath that she doesn’t fancy him. On the surface she appears to have it all until her past catches up with her and she has to dismantle the life she’s built for herself piece by piece before anyone finds out about her other husband.

This is the kind of mystery, though, where you want the main character to contact the police at multiple points, which she does not do, so the plot can plod along.

Who is trying to frame Cleo and just why is she pressing self-destruct on a life she is seemingly happy with? Once I had finished this course, I was going to make sure I had all the tools to start and finish a book. I haven’t read anything by Dorothy Koomson before, but I will definitely be checking out her other books now, and I 100% this being on your 2022 must-read list. What I thought was going to be a crime/ thriller, turned out to be a boring story with a few murders briefly mentioned.

Not too sure how to describe this book, other than the fact that this is a unique book, a plot which I won’t forget. I use my writing to try to explore what I’m feeling, I try to get into the heads of other people so I can see things from their point of view. This book was definitely a slow burn for me but when it got going with the twists and turns it really was an attention grabber and kept you hooked right until the end. Bringing it back to present day and Cleo has moved on, she’s now married to Wallace but he’s connected to her past in such a way that it’s impossible that the past will not come back to haunt Cleo. I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Headline via NetGalley and this review is my own unbiased opinion.
