HOWEVER if you are reading this book because you saw a tiktok or insta reel staying there is a revenge plot with “who did this to you? I mean that not as a criticism but as an objective fact: the book as a whole is maybe 5% Things Actually Happening and 95% Words About Nothing Happening. At first I was going to give this book more of a break but then I saw that the author has many books under their belt.

With the body count rising by the day, DI Caroline Hills and DS Dexter Antoine need to uncover the link before more innocent people die. But we still have the same sarcasm, wit, and humour from all the main characters that make us love them so much. The book picks up from Fade Out with Claire and her friends owing a debt to Morley, one of the less than pleasant vampires (if there is such a thing as a pleasant vampire! Despite being a lonely and reserved creature, he instantly recognized Hazel's worth and took it upon himself to ensure her comfort and well-being during her stay in his castle. We also see some characters that should have stood up for Hazel but never really did, or only did when it was too late.Tabby in the audience, girls who shunned her after Dan McAndrew was murdered (and many thought Scarlett was involved … or at the very least, responsible). I’m still going to read the next book in the series, but I don’t expect that I’ll really remember this book out of everything I’ve read.

There’s also an unfinished feeling; we spend literally half the book reading about step-brothers and then there’s suddenly nothing about them. Yes, I always loved myths and legends - I used to read and re-read two books from the library - one a big illustrated edition of Greek Myths and the other Old Peter's Russian Tales. When I started it, I was so excited to read something like this, but it was so poorly and repetitively executed that it bore me to d-e-a-t-h. Still, Kiss of Death is enjoyable as it is, just tagging along with Scarlett as her journey comes to a close. This is a dark fantasy series centered around a mashup of mythological and fantasy retellings that is slow burn and slow build with multiple love interests, shifters, forbidden love, multiple POV, dark themes, cliffhangers, twists, spice, betrayal, heartache, redemption, and so much more. Scarlett's trip starts out innocently enough … though she thinks she's going to die after listening to native Scottish music performed by men and women dressed in traditional costumes. I did find the second half moderately more engaging than the first but it wasn’t enough to keep me hooked for the rest of the series.
