Jojo continues to interrogate Elsa, learning she has a boyfriend called Nathan with whom she wants to reunite when the war is over. Jojo forges a letter from "Nathan" which claims that he has found someone else and wants to break up with Elsa. Hearing her crying, Jojo writes another letter retracting the first one. Jojo and Adolf argue, with Adolf insisting Elsa is a monster. Later, while on one of his metal collecting trips, Jojo spots his mother leaving a "free Germany" message in town.

I found myself thinking about the type of person I would be in similar circumstances. Would I be kind and ensure the person in my care felt self-respect and some comfort? Rate And Review

Jews have had to defend our existence, our beliefs, in life-and-death situations. Waititi knows this, so instead of Elsa fighting to prove she deserves to be treated like a human being, she goes along with the joke. Because – I think Waititi would agree – it is laughable! The fact that we, now or ever, blame a certain group of human beings for our woes (and think they have horns) is so ludicrous it beggars belief. However, the results of that blame are far from funny. Waititi knows this too and rightfully in this movie we never go to the death camps. We never see the piles of shoes, the messy reality of the consequences of this blame. The blame is not the story Jojo Rabbit is telling, and that's okay. This is one of those stories where reality overlaps imagination. J, the main character of the plot, stands for all those kids who were deprived of a healthy youth, to become war freaks — slaves of a crazy political regime! ☹️

I have not seen Jojo Rabbit, so I have absolutely no idea how the two compare but going off of the trailer, I'm going to say that they seem like completely different animals, so, keep that in mind if you liked the film and are considering reading the book.
