Obituary by none other than Coast to Coast AM; "R.I.P. Dr. Roger Leir".Coast to Coast AM.2014-03-16 .Retrieved 2014-03-16.

All our operations are carried out under the control of the X-ray apparatus “C Arm”, this helps the surgeon to see the desired object on the screen during the operation. And for the first time in our practice of such operations, the object split into several parts. By the late 1990s, Leir's findings had established him as a prominent, though controversial, spokesperson for the alien abduction and UFO communities. The Aliens and the Scalpel, detailing his experiences with "implant" surgery, was published in 1999, followed by Casebook: Alien Implants. He made appearances in various television documentaries, including the History Channel's UFO Hunters, and attended conferences in more than 40 countries. In 2003, he travelled to Varginha, Brazil, to conduct his own research into the alleged crash of an alien craft there seven years previously, an event dubbed "the Brazilian Roswell." The investigation formed the basis of his final book, UFO Crash in Brazil.Leir’s writing style is not great, but adequate and literate. If you read this book, do so for the important information it reveals, rather than for entertainment value. Though now in his mid-70s, Roger has not retired from surgical practice: he continues to work in this field and to be a major inspiration to others who now follow the path he has pioneered in this vitally important area. – The Guardian (Roger died on 14 March, 2014. RIP.) How is it possible that Dr. Leir, and the other alien implant promoters, could have gotten so much basic science so wrong? To understand, listen to Dr. Leir's own words from his appearance at the UFO conference, talking about a TV program he hoped to make to promote the idea of alien implants: Leir said that he had been confronted with various cases when during the operation he tried to remove the implants, the alien implants were extremely resistant to conventional instruments, and only with the help of a laser, he was able to damage some of them. The tissues surrounding these small metallic foreign objects, which looked like ‘cantaloupe seeds radiating small tendrils’, were invariably devoid of any inflammatory reaction and were found, inexplicably, to contain nerve proprioceptors. Now, we can speculate all day about what might be going on here but one thing we can say, with certainty, is that no way do these things exhibit the characteristics normally seen with foreign bodies which find their way, through accident or other means, into the human organism. In ‘normal’ cases, a foreign body would generate substantial and persistent inflammatory tissue response and nerve tissue would never develop around it.

There is also some filler in-between, as the author describes his visit and investigation in Brazil working on the case. The implant was eventually sent to a company named Digital Instruments in California for further study. [2] However, the results of these studies were largely unclear, although there was little doubt that the implant was certainly very strange. The Aliens and the Scalpel, Revised Second Edition. The personal story of a professional physician’s work involving one of the greatest breakthroughs of all time — scientific proof that anomalous bio-electromagnetic implants of extraterrestrial origin have been removed from persons reporting alien abduction experiences. This revised and updated book includes and is supported by new scientific reports and a new photo gallery section. The evidence presented here provides enough evidence to believe that we have cosmic companions and they here with us now.

Some implants were magnetic, and some were said to emit obscure radio waves at the “deep space-frequency” and continued to emit these signals even after being removed from the body. Scientific evaluation is our best ally, but the experiences and opinions of the courageous individuals involved in these implant surgeries are equally important. A series of simple questions were posed to each of the participants. When asked as to how and when their implants might have been inserted, Pat Parrinellio from Houston, Texas believed his implant could have been inserted during a UFO encounter he had in 1954, at six years of age . Mary Jones recalls two UFO encounters when her metallic objects could have been implanted, in 1969. “In the first frightening UFO encounter”, Mary commented, “I was on a camping trip with my family while pregnant with my third child.” Oddly enough, one month after Mary’s child was born, she had another alien encounter while at home during the night. Conversely, Dorothy O’Hara from Palm Springs, California and Licia Davidson also from California both replied, “I have no idea when the object was inserted.” Alice Leavy commented that she first noticed the lump on her leg following a UFO encounter involving other witnesses in San Diego, in 1993. “I actually noticed the lump” Alice clarified, “when I discovered the scoop mark also on my left leg, after the UFO encounter.” The Varginha Incident isn't the only case discussed in this book however. Some other notable UFO sightings/reports are given time and space. Most interesting (and new to me) was the "Urnadir Hoax" and it's followers "Project Portal" which sounds like another Billy Meier to me.

In an effort to make sense of the lab analyses of the object from Patient Seventeen’s leg, Corbell reached out to two outside experts—including UCLA meteorite expert Alan Rubin—who he said were unwilling to go on camera to talk about possible alien technology. When Corbell presented them with the results from the labs, he said they were puzzled, but ultimately concluded that more tests would have to be done to determine whether the object was extraterrestrial in origin. However, he gradually started reading books about UFOs and aliens, began attending various meetings of UFO fans, and then became a member of the local branch of MUFON – the American UFO network. R. Leir holds academic degrees of Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, Bachelor of Science, and Associate in Arts. Dr. Leir is considered one of the world’s most important leaders in physical evidence research involving the field of Ufology. He and his surgical team have performed fifteen surgeries on alleged alien abductees. This resulted in the removal of sixteen separate and distinct objects suspected of being alien implants. These objects have been scientifically investigated by some of the most prestigious laboratories in the world including Los Alamos National Labs, New Mexico Tech, Seal Laboratories, Southwest Labs, the University of Toronto, York University, and the University of California at San Diego. Their findings have been baffling and some comparisons have been made to meteorite samples. In addition, some of the tests show metallurgical anomalies such as highly magnetic iron that is without crystalline form, combinations of crystalline materials mixed common metals, growth of biological tissue into or out of metallic substances, as well as isotopic ratios not of this world. Dr. Leir has also been involved in investigations of other areas of Ufology involving physical evidence. He has traveled to Brazil and performed exhaustive research into the Varginha, Brazil case. In 2003 Dr. Leir worked with one of the worlds leading geneticists and the National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS) on a DNA study pertaining to evidence collected in a famous California alien abduction case. He was also a participant (Nov., 2007) in an international press conference held at the National Press Club in Washington D.C., where evidence from thirteen military officers, pertaining to their experiences with UFO’s, was presented to worldwide media. Speaking to some of these individuals who are four-star generals at the Secretaries of Defence, folks who have a lot of responsibility (and a lot to lose) and they're looking at you in front of a camera, looking at you right in the eyes and saying, 'Yes, these things are real. Yes, we have an official UFO programme in our government apparatus, specifically trying to figure out what things are. That's extremely compelling.

The community of believers come from those who also believe in UFOs and aliens and that they do in fact exist. There are multiple social influences that have contributed to this growing belief system, especially over the past couple of years. Media is a huge form of influence, through movies, TV shows, and anything that even talks about them. Even if they are not projecting them to be real or not, it still puts the thought out there. It chronicles, in the first person, Dr. Leir’s involvement in identifying, surgically removing and analyzing implants from the bodies of serial abductees in southern California (the surgeries were performed at more than one clinical location) and may be the nearest thing we have to irrefutable scientific proof that the abductors do place small devices in abductees’ bodies, for purposes about which we can only speculate. The statue thing is interesting, and more than likely a symbolic system for the area like having a medal. Of course financial aspects of it come to mind as well with all those tourists and media attention.

The only thing otherwordly about that case is the fact that someone would claim that the piece is extraterrestrial. I was heartbroken to hear of Dr. Leir’s passing when it happened. I am one of the some who know of the phenomenon that Dr. Leir studied. I noticed him years ago as (first, a true humanitarian) someone willing to confront social, and personal, truths that others even forcefully deny. “The world” says there is no evidence of “alien” existence, but Dr. Leir was one of those showing the evidence if their capabilities. Dr. Leir cared most about the circumstances that the people he worked for were living under, AND, tried (and DID) help. How many can that be said for? Leir said he had removed about a dozen implants from people's bodies [Note 2] and claimed they were devices that "emit radio signals". Leir alleged that some of the implants had physically moved during surgery, as if to avoid removal. [Note 3] This despite the fact that — in a video he himself provided to skeptics of this exact phenomenon taking place — it quite instantly becomes obvious that Leir is the one responsible for the perceived movement, forcefully pushing around a mobile lump of subcutaneous fat with his thumb. [1] Leir said that laboratory testing of the implants " implied they were of extraterrestrial origin". [6] [7] Sounds like the exact type of conclusion an actual, accredited laboratory would settle on, doesn't it?Isotopes are variations in elements. The number of protons is the same, but the number of neutrons varies, creating stable and radioactive versions of elements. For example, the atomic bomb could only be created when scientists were able to isolate one uranium isotope from the rest. The simple fact is that people trip, fall, step on things, or work industrial jobs or have hobbies that deliver splinters, and nearly all of us have debris embedded in our skin somewhere. I've had a piece of gravel in my elbow for 25 years from a rollerblading crash. It remains only for the alien implant believers to open their minds to the possibility that their preferred explanation is not necessarily the only possible one. There were no scars on the surface of the skin where the object was implanted and there was no trace of inflammation in the connective tissue as if the woman’s body did not consider these alien implants to be foreign bodies.
