The Glenfiddich 15-Year-Old is matured in virgin oak, American bourbon, and Portuguese sherry casks as well as bottled at 40% ABV. It has notes of banana, honey, coffee, oak, apples, sherry, oranges, berry, white pepper, and milk chocolate. It also has a warm, fruity, and flowery finish. The Glenfiddich 18 Year The word “ Glenfiddich” translates to “valley of the deer” in the Scottish Gaelic language. This is the reason why the logo of this whisky is a stag. Interestingly, both Glenfiddich IPA and Glenfiddich XX single malt will be permanent additions to the Glenfiddich range; they are not limited editions. Both the IPA and XX is non-chill-filtered and bottled at an unusual 47% ABV.

It’s an unorthodox whisky to be sure, but much to my surprise it’s a completely worthwhile one. I think it’s because Glenfiddich is not really mixing whiskies at random but is rather mixing these whiskies with a bit of a guided hand. There’s some method to the madness here, perhaps thanks to a benevolent intelligent designer working behind the scenes. How else would the mix of 17 bourbon casks and just 3 wine casks come to be if each of the 20 ambassadors was selecting in a vacuum? Brian Kinsman, Malt Master for William Grant & Sons, was at pains to say that the goal was not to create a whisky that tasted like a beer as “this would defeat the whole point”, but to create a whisky that had multiple layers that would otherwise be unexpected from Glenfiddich and the Scottish single malt category.

Seb finished the tasting of the Glenfiddich IPA by saying that for him it was an “exciting project to be a part of, [I] learned a lot about whisky science and hope that Brian learned that some beers are good.” [Cue: laughter] It was clear that Glenfiddich XX was considerably more popular, so I had to add this to my tasting list and capture the tasting notes. In the mouth: blood oranges (I tend to find that a lot in Glenfiddich), with toffee fudge, a lot of vanilla, some cinnamon. Again, lightly textured but with a silky edge. Sultanas, raisins – European oak showing itself? – with cloves, lots and lots of apples, pastry. Hazelnuts. A sprinkling of muscovado sugar. Milk chocolate. Quite autumnal. Touch tannic on the finish. Really very nice. The Glenfiddich Whisky is made with malted barley, water, and air. These three vital ingredients inspired Hans Schleger, a popular designer, to design the iconic triangular bottle. Translating to 'valley of the deer' in Scottish Gaelic, Glenfiddich distillery is one the oldest family-owned whisky companies in Scotland. A colossus in the whisky industry, Glenfiddich was established by William Grant in 1876 and had the first spirit running off its stills in 1886. Today the company is still run by his descendants, and as the first brand to truly market itself as a single malt whisky , Glenfiddich now accounts for approximately 30% of all single malt sales worldwide.

Conclusions

Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. NOSE: Ripe Golden Delicious apples, dark stone fruits and spice with hints of fresh flowers. Some vanilla and oak are floating about. Not the most complex nose. Since then, the Glenfiddich whisky became synonymous with excellence. Its intense and complex flavors truly make it the ‘best dram in the valley’. Limited editions were also released, making consumers want it more. Glenfiddich Whisky Prices

During the beginning of 2018, I tasted the Glenfiddich IPA Cask whisky and wrote my own tasting notes about it. This release was the first in Glenfiddich’s Experimental Series and I loved it. The second release in this series is the Glenfiddich XX whisky and many people had opinions about this release.

The result is two new whiskies. One is an IPA cask-finished single malt, and the other is an ambassador crowd-source whisky aimed the connoisseur. Glenfiddich IPA Experiment is a No Age Statement whisky finished for just 3 months in casks that had held an IPA beer created by the nearby Speyside Craft Brewery. The ale itself was created using British Challenger hops for its fruity flavours, and which would in theory go well with the Glenfiddich’s inherent fruitiness. The Glenfiddich 18-Year-Old is matured in bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks as well as bottled at 43% ABV. It has notes of grapefruit, ginger, dried apricot, chocolate, wood, cinnamon, and baked toffee apples. The Glenfiddich 21 Year This is not the first whisky to be finished in an ale cask. Grant’s, like Glenfiddich owned by William Grant & Sons, released an Ale Cask whisky. And curiously there have been experiments with single malt finished in ale casks too.
