The whiskey explodes with flavour of rye spice, alongside bursts of black pepper, zesty citrus, sweet butterscotch and warm oak.Every bottle of their excellent rye comes from a single barrel, highlighting the quality of their craft. It's made from select American rye grain that is sheared to maximize the extraction of flavor from the grain. Michter's more recent history, however, really begins in the 1990s when two men sought to revive the much loved (but sadly declined) brand down in Kentucky, the heartland of American Whiskey. The 10-Year Rye, 10-Year Bourbon and 20-Year Bourbon expressions reflect the exceptional results of uncompromising craftsmanship and Kentucky’s unrivaled climate for aging outstanding whiskey. Crafted using only the finest ingredients and traditional, costly techniques, there's a rich yet mellow character to these gorgeous whiskeys, which are hard to match for sheer enjoyability.After a nearly three year absence from the market, Michter’s then Master Distiller Willie Pratt finally gave the green light for the re-release of Michter’s 10 Year Straight Rye in April 2014.

At the Michter’s distillery, they chill filter all of our whiskeys instead of using carbon filtration that can strip out flavor and aroma. This gives the whiskey citrus notes and a buttery texture and helps to balance the more spicy and peppery flavours that rye is known for. This is my Second favorite rye on the market; Bold, yet crisp with a remarkable finish and flavour profile.All spirit at Michter’s is distilled using copper column and pot stills before entering the barrel at 103 proof. Originally founded in Pennsylvania in 1753 by John and Michael Shenk, legend has it that then-General George Washington visited the Shenks' distillery in 1776 and bought supplies of whiskey for his troops during the cold winter at Valley Forge, leading to the claim that Michter's was "the whiskey that warmed the American Revolution". This rye whiskey is an old “Kentucky style” of rye that utilises a higher percentage of corn in the mash bill. Michter's distilling heritage traces back to 1753 when Swiss Mennonite farmer John Shenk founded the original whiskey company and distillery in the Pennsylvania Blue Mountain Valley.
