About this deal

Only she's not really being held captive – she's been in on it the whole time. Lucia met Molina when she was sent to a mental institution by her parents after she killed a cat. When she got out, she teamed up with Molina to seek her revenge on Hugo and Sophie. What a charming, fantastic book. This is everything that I hoped Jean Auel’s books would be, but weren’t. That’s high praise from me, and considering I spent a year perusing stone age fiction in hopes of finding a good series and failing to do so. It's a coming-of-age story, wrapped up in a quest. A "fellowship of the ring" but with only 3 in the group. Parts are scary. Dark.

The original six-title series was a huge success and was published in 36 different languages and 37 different territories. The series concluded with Ghost Hunter, but after a 10-year hiatus and pressure from fans, Paver announced a three-book continuation of the series last year. The next instalment, Viper's Daughter, will be published on 2nd April by Zephyr, an imprint of Head of Zeus. La historia es increíble, la narración es atrapante y muy fluida, el mundo es impresionante, y me moría de ternura cada vez que leía a Lobo. Pero lo que más me sorprendió fue el antagonista: un oso poseído por un espíritu maligno. The orphan boy is 12-year-old Torak, whose father has been brutally murdered by the bear. Frightened and accompanied only by a wolf cub as his friend, Torak will have to embark on a terrifying quest in a world of wolves, tree spirits and Hidden People, where trusting a friend might just mean risking your life... Hord is Renn's brother. He unknowingly helps Tenris, who's acting as a 'crippled wanderer' create a demon by capturing a young bear. Throughout the first book Hord behaves stubbornly, and fueled by guilt, believes that he must deliver Torak's blood to the World Spirit himself. In the end, he follows Torak to the Mountain of the World Spirit and tries to kill him, he fails and he and the bear are killed by an avalanche created by the World Spirit. For the book Ghost Hunter (2009) she won the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize, a book award judged by a panel of British children's writers. [4] [5] Finally, we have just (yesterday) decide not to proceed with the film for the moment. This was a really tough decision, because it will inevitably disappoint a great many readers. However, both Michelle, I and indeed her publisher believe it’s the right thing to do at this stage. The first book in Michelle Paver's hugely popular Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series, Wolf Brother is a gripping and original adventure story. Magical, imaginative, vividly-told and rich in detail, young readers will find Torak's tale completely engrossing. That she has done her research is obvious in the little details that she weaves into the story – and yes, she does so appropriately, rather than giving us massive, ill-fitting infodumps (looking at you Auel, trying to cram every last research note in whether or not it made sense in the story). The story is wonderful, and it swept me away to a stone age world.

Wolf Brother is a perfect read for children in the targeted age range of 9-12. Torak, Wolf, and Renn are easy to love and the ancient wilderness setting is fascinating and offers lots of opportunities for learning about forest survival techniques. Danger, magic and non-stop adventure await through the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness. Our story begins THOUSANDS of years ago, when an orphan boy and his wolf cub challenge a demon bear that threatens to destroy their world for ever.

Torak and Wolf, aided by Naiginn's father, Marupai and a young halfman (girl) named Shamik from the Narwhal clan, trace Naiginn and Renn to the Edge of the World, a volcanic opening where an opening to the demonic Otherworld can be found. Naiginn wants to use the power of the Edge of the World to allow Renn to break his curse, but the proximity of flames (counter to Naiginn's nature as an ice demon) weaken him. Renn escapes and Wolf summons the ancient spirits of the long-dead mammoths to hunt the demons, who fear them. Naiginn disappears and Torak, Renn, Wolf and Shamik (eager to escape the abuse she suffers from the Narwhals) return to the Forest. However, although they promise to tell each other the truth from that moment onwards, Renn does not tell Torak that she is still seeing visions of Seshru. The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness are an exciting read with plenty to get your heart thumping with demons, mythical adventures, and a story of close friendship against all odds. Wolf Brother is set thousands of years ago in an enchanted world split into clans and territories. Each clan respected what nature gave up for their nourishment and way of life, but there are rules. Torak lives with his father remote from any clan, and suddenly his father is killed by an evil possessed bear and Torak is left alone with only a wolf cub as his companion. There is more to this situation than meets the eye, but that will be revealed over the next 6 books. What is so special about Torak? And can he make sense of it? Who can he make friends with, who are his allies and who or what is after him? Torak will start on an adventure that will be overwhelming, supernatural and intriguing. He has special gifts in that he can talk to wolves and he is totally joined with his cub and Wolf Brother.

The Wolf Brother series is set in northern Scandinavia 6,000 years after the Ice Age and follows Torak, his friend Renn and his wolf, Wolf. The bond between Torak and Wolf is the heart of the story and the clans featured in the books are based on real hunter-gatherers whose connection with, and respect for the land, resonated with readers.

Publication Order of Standalone Novels

Bale is a young man from the Seal clan who is also Torak's kinsman as Torak's paternal grandmother was from the Seal Clan. They initially get off to a bad start as he captures Torak and takes him to Seal Island, but later become friends. Bale first appears in the book Spirit Walker. Bale is killed in the beginning of the book Oath Breaker by the Soul Eater named Thiazzi.

He wins by temporarily blinding Hord with steam; this action, together with a dog whistle which Torak has made to summon Wolf, leads Fin-Kedinn and the Raven mage to see Torak as the "Listener" of a prophecy. The prophecy states that the Listener, who "talks with silence and fights with air", will offer his heart's blood to the World Spirit and thereby kill the demon-bear. Many Ravens now believe that Torak must be sacrificed. Torak manages to escape his imprisonment; he is unexpectedly joined by Renn, who has also brought Wolf. Though adversarial at first, Torak and Renn develop a mutual respect, and eventually become friends.I’m really glad that you like my books! But I’m afraid that after I finished Wolf Bane, I just knew that I wouldn’t be writing any more books featuring Torak, Renn and Wolf. You see, I think nine books is a satisfying number, and as I’m really pleased with how Wolf Bane turned out, I prefer to end it there, rather than letting the series trail off into stories that aren’t quite as good, and might get repetitive. Also, I think I’ve developed the main characters – not only Wolf, Torak and Renn, but others, such as Dark – to the point where readers can imagine for themselves how their lives will turn out, and what might happen to them. As for the future, the books which I write after Wolf Bane are going to be ghost stories for grown-ups (maybe you’ll enjoy them when you’re a bit older). I’m sorry to disappoint you. But perhaps re-reading some of the Wolf Brother stories will help; I know that many readers enjoy doing this. The book has been translated into Chinese, Spanish, French, Czech, Slovak, Polish, Vietnamese, Bulgarian, Japanese, German, Dutch, Swedish, Portuguese, Italian, Hebrew, Finnish, Norwegian, Russian, Serbian, Hungarian, Latvian, Danish, Indonesian, Romanian, Icelandic, Turkish, Slovenian and Faroese ( Faroe Islands). This is a children's book that has crossover appeal to adults. It's set 6,000 years ago in a hunter-gathering society that believes in magic, where there are various clans that band together to survive in the forest. The book opens with our hero, a boy who is "twelve summers old," coping with the death of his father who was killed by a demonic bear. That sends the boy on a quest to find a way to kill the bear. A wolf cub becomes his friend and guide, and along with a girl from another clan, they face trials and adventures. Paver researched extensively while developing the book. In addition to academic study, she travelled to north-eastern Finland, where she trekked with a field guide over 300 miles across the forests. To understand life in the New Stone Age, they used tools and clothing that would have been available 6000 years ago, slept in a traditional laavu shelter in a sleeping bag made of reindeer skin, and ate only foods that Stone-Age hunter-gatherers would have. In addition, she spent time at a wolf reserve studying the wolves and observing their behavior, and also named the main character "Torak." From the one of the wolves in the UK Wolf Conservation Trust. [7]
