Description

Let’s start at the beginning, when even Lord Voldemort, one of the most powerful wizards of all time, saw his magic go spectacularly wrong. You know the gist, of course. In pursuit of immortality, the Dark Lord split his soul into several pieces – through murder – and bound them to objects, transforming them into Horcruxes. As long as those Horcruxes survived, so did Voldemort. It’s dark, powerful magic: so powerful that not even a wizard as gifted as Voldemort could fully command it, as he found out when he tried to murder Harry Potter as a child. As Professor Dumbledore explained in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Voldemort had rendered his soul so unstable that when he tried to kill him – and the curse rebounded – a part of himself became latched on to Harry, making him the seventh Horcrux.

When DD tells Harry that his wand only has extraordinary powers against LV's wand and that against all other wands it's just an ordinary one, he adds: "Though it's a fine wand, I'm sure." Now that can be taken as just an afterthought because he is afraid he has hurt Harry's feelings, but it could also be that DD in fact 'is sure' it is a fine wand, because it used to be his. At Christmas time, as per Triwizard Tournament tradition, Hogwarts hosts a Yule Ball. Ron and Harry panic at the prospect of having to secure dates for the event, and Ron appalls Hermione with his immature approach, particularly for failing to extend her an invitation, apparently failing until the last minute to even realise she is a girl. At the last minute, Harry saves the day by getting Parvati Patil and her sister Padma to agree to come with the duo, although Padma seems less than pleased at Ron's surly attitude and shabby dress. Ron becomes overcome with jealousy when he sees Hermione with her date: his former idol Krum. When Hermione comes over to Ron and Harry for a friendly chat, Ron loses control and accuses her of "fraternising with the enemy" and giving away Harry's Triwizard secrets. At the evening's end, the two have a heated row, in which Hermione tells Ron he should have asked her before Krum, rather than simply hoping to secure her by default. [GoFCh.23] Ron completely fails to get the hint and remains either in denial or oblivious to the pair's increasingly obvious feelings for each other. Ron's jealousy over Krum is mirrored by Hermione's dislike of Fleur Delacour (of the Beauxbatons Academy and a Triwizard competitor), on whom Ron has an obvious crush. [GoFCh.22] In 1996, during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, Neville temporarily used Hermione's wand after his wand was broken, and Hermione was incapacitated by Death Eater Antonin Dolohov. His nose was also broken, making it difficult for him to articulate spells. At one point in the battle, when Walden Macnair grabbed Harry by the throat, Neville jabbed him in the eye through his mask with Hermione's wand, making him scream and release Harry. [3] Seth Meyers appeared as Ron in Saturday Night Live in the sketch in which Lindsay Lohan portrays Hermione. [21] In the console versions of Prisoner of Azkaban, Ron's wand tip leaks out light-brown-coloured sparkles. In Goblet of Fire's PC and console versions, the same colour appears on a charm-able target within Ron's proximity whenever he is controlled by a player.Rowling Reveals 'Marriage' to Harry Potter at Reading (Correct)". Ron’s original wand was a hand-me-down from his older brother Charlie. It was made of ash. This wand broke when the flying Ford Anglia crashed into the Whomping Willow on the 1st of September, 1992. The Leaky Cauldron and MN Interview Joanne Kathleen Rowling – Part 2". The Leaky Cauldron. 28 July 2007 . Retrieved 9 February 2022. But the wand was perfectly intact when Ron had it (before the Whomping Willow incident anyway). And as far as I can tell, there was nothing else deficient about the wand.

Cedric Diggory: pleasantly springy, 12 1/4″, single hair from the tail of a particularly fine male unicorn Harry's wand is made of holly wood. According to European tradition, the holly tree repels evil. The name "holly" is derived from the word "holy." (JKR) Harry’s and Voldemort’s wands are “brothers” because they have cores of not only the same substance but from exactly the same source. When they are forced to fight each other, the Priori Incantatem effect is produced. Yew trees are known for their long lives. They symbolize death, but also resurrection. (JKR)

One of the first things Ron Weasley told Harry Potter was that the wand he’d brought with him to Hogwarts had previously belonged to his older brother Charlie. It was already worn out – battered and chipped, with its core of unicorn hair nearly poking out – and that was well before the Whomping Willow almost snapped it in two. After that, there was no hope. Two nominally-inanimate objects play an important role in this chapter. The Ford Anglia initially seems only to be a vehicle that has been enchanted to fly, probably by Mr. Weasley. However, after dumping the boys onto the ground, it appears to be much more than that, tearing off into the Forbidden Forest like a wild animal suddenly set free. This indicates it may have become somewhat sentient, though Mr. Weasley probably never intended that. Also, the Whomping Willow is, obviously, no ordinary tree. It reacts violently when the flying car crashes into it, attempting to smash it, and Harry and Ron, to bits. No explanation is given for its behavior, though it may also have been charmed in some way. It is curious that neither boy seemed aware that the tree, planted in a very visible and accessible location on the castle grounds, has this capacity. If it is that dangerous, then why are students never warned to keep away from it? One has to wonder why such a dangerous tree is there at all. Harry's and Voldemort's wands are "brothers" because they have cores of not only the same substance but from exactly the same source. When they are forced to fight each other, the Priori Incantatem effect is produced. Yew trees are known for their long lives. They symbolize death, but also resurrection. Based on Charlie Weasley, the original owner of the wand, being born on 12 December, 1972, and thus beginning at Hogwarts in 1984. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Chapter 6 ( The Journey from Platform Nine and Three-Quarters) - "He rummaged around in his trunk and pulled out a very battered-looking wand. It was chipped in places and something white was glinting at the end. “Unicorn hair’s nearly poking out. Anyway —”" This caused a problem when she, Harry, and Ron later broke in to Gringotts Wizarding Bank with Hermione impersonating Bellatrix by consuming Polyjuice Potion. The goblins asked Hermione to see her wand as identification before she could enter the Lestrange family's vault, but Bellatrix had already warned them that her wand had been stolen. Harry was forced to use the Imperius Curse to ensure that Hermione was allowed in. [19]

This is the rarest core type. Phoenix feathers are capable of the greatest range of magic, though they may take longer than either unicorn or dragon cores to reveal this. They show the most initiative, sometimes acting of their own accord, a quality that many witches and wizards dislike …” Ron Weasley's wand was used at Hogwarts quite often, especially during the Battle of the Room of Requirement while defending Hermione. Although there are no other major uses that are worth highlighting, it was used constantly during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries and the Battle of Hogwarts.
