But why stop at a shiny new GPU? The Alienware x17 R2 also has some goodies on the CPU front thanks to Intel. Take it with a grain of salt as you’ll see the biggest gains in older titles with moderate advancement in new titles. Intel’s also promising big improvements in productivity tasks. We saw a bit of improvement on our traditional battery test (continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness) as the Alienware lasted 2:58 on performance mode and 3:01 on battery saver mode. Neither time was enough to surpass the 4:04 premium gaming laptop average. The MSI, Razer and Asus all had better times at 4:57, 5:58 and 10:14, respectively. Productivity Performance Most of the other software is re-named software from Alienware's parent company, Dell. Inside the x17 R2 is a powerhouse of components. You can tweak the configuration to your liking, but the review sample I received had a 12th Gen Intel Core i7–12700H, a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti with 16GB of GDDR6 memory, 32GB of GDDR5 4,800 MHz memory and a 1TB SSD. As a reminder, all of that powers a 1080p display with a refresh rate of 480Hz. Absurdity on paper. The touchpad measures roughly 2.4 x 4.8 inches, it's just large enough for four-finger Windows gestures, and I would like to see something a bit larger. That overall size is to accommodate the 17.3-inch Full High Definition display with an impressively fast 480Hz refresh rate.
