We found the breathability was actually pretty good even on longer rides when the weather was cooler. e. to learn to ride flat pedals instead of clipless, I’ve been banging around in the Five Ten Sleuth Mountain Bike Shoes.

This is in huge contrast to the Five Ten Freerider Contact, which is almost a safety liability when walking on trail, particularly on anything loose or slippery. Making shoes out of Ocean Plastic isn’t going to clean up our marine habitats, but it could help raise awareness of the threat, and get people involved in organised clean ups near them. The Powerline is far from an unbendable 2×4, particularly around the ball of the foot, but it does feel more efficient on the pedals and doesn’t feel quite as comfortable while hiking up steep hills vs. For how grippy they are, and for how much I’ve been walking around in them, I’m impressed by the Sleuth DLX’s durability. If we have supplied the correct product, it is not faulty or it is outside of the 14 days we can not be liable for your postage charges. In terms of protection, the Sleuth DLX is on the more minimal side of things, though I haven’t had any real complaints in terms of it feeling loose / sloppy / unsupportive.

We felt the Sleuth lives up to the expectations of a casual shoe that still rides well enough for shorter rides. The other side effect of this is that the Powerline offers the least amount of pedal feel / sensitivity of the shoes I used, though I quickly adjusted to that and I can still feel quite connected to my pedals in the shoe. Even though the Sleuth has street shoe style, our test riders felt way more confident on and off the bike in these kicks than in a regular skate shoe. First, the Shift’s rubber is the least sticky of the shoes here, falling a bit below the Sleuth’s C4 rubber in that regard. Which sounds like the most boring thing ever but this layer of shock absorbing material between the pedal and the rider’s foot adds a whole load of added comfort and control to the ride.

Essentially a clipless pedal version of the Five Ten Impact XVi, the new Hellcat is lighter and lower-profile than ever. While the Sleuth provides great off the bike walking comfort, that doesn't necessarily help in the rigidity department. If you're looking for a less burly shoe with better efficiency, check out some of the more typical shoes in our review. The Freerider Contact / Vault combination of shoe and pedal has been my go-to for a while now (and easily my favorite that I’ve ever tried), and I’m relatively loath to test anything that takes me away from that combo.I love them, besides that they are super cool, their sole is perfect for the bike, very good quality. But as I kept biking — and particularly when I switched to some pedals with more grip (Deity Deftrap) — I’ve found myself sometimes wishing it was easier to adjust my feet on the pedals without taking my feet all the way off them. Please note that some assembly will be required, which we recommend be carried out by an experienced mechanic.

But it’s worth noting if your local riding spots tend to be substantially hotter, or if you’re on the other end and consistently ride in wet conditions. Overall, the Powerline’s traction on the pedals is quite good, but given that it uses Ride Concepts’s highest-grip rubber compound (DST 4.For those who like the concept of casual-looking shoes that perform better on the bike than your average sneakers, like the regular Sleuth, but who are looking for better overall performance on the pedals, the Sleuth DLX is worth a good look. That suede (and internal cloth lining) will soak up a good bit of water and they don’t seem to want to part with it very quickly. Particularly if you’re not planning on spending a lot of time on rough trails and / or want a shoe that will truly see 50/50 use on and off the bike, that makes the Sleuth worth a look.
