It was actually repulsive for me to put on a vanilla perfume and be greeted with the smell of a rotting jasmine petal, along aged almonds. but i suppose chemicals react differently on everyone bc the musk wasn’t that all that nice when i tested it, i’m a more sweet floral person. So HP opens with a deep, dark, and juicy stone fruit note which quickly gives way to rootbeer accord (the combination of almond, caraway, and coconut) with a sliver-moon of smoky tobacco/cigarette ash that I never noticed before, beaming through at me, making it interesting.

it starts out with this terrible liquorice/star anise combo that makes me feel like i’m stuck in an asian grocer on a humid day. i love this, sadly i do get the play-doh scent at the start and it slowly fades away but never fully leaves. Top notes are Coconut, Plum and Apricot; middle notes are Brazilian Rosewood, Jasmine, Caraway, Tuberose, Rose and Lily-of-the-Valley; base notes are Vanilla, Almond, Sandalwood and Musk.An avid hater of original Poison since 1985, I was keen on trying this as the reviews pointed to a scent that I might like. the sillage is great, and the longevity is insane for it being an EDT -- although dior always knocks it out of the park with EDTs.

An atmosphere of total deliciousness reigns… The bottle of Hypnotic Poison—fragrance of mystery—is an absolute icon. The opening can sometimes smell like root beer or liquorice to me, but the scent is pleasant once it's dried down a bit. I don't perceive too much licorice to be honest, at least not in its raw form, but clearly, its presence differentiates this scent from any other vanilla amber scents I've tested.It's very sweet and and usually described to be a typical gourmand but I believe that the almond , sandalwood and musk make it more unique and drive it into more of a ladylike/elegant gourmand fragrance.
