I know the shame that living undiagnosed can bring, and I know the absolute relief of watching a 30-second video on TikTok and being able to breathe for the first time in 30 years, because Oh my god, it isn’t just me. If you learn to regulate your emotions through breathing or meditation, the stress of losing something can be reduced. This is not the clinical answer to what is ADHD and how to deal written by people who have studied the brain and human psychology for 50 years but never actually experienced ADHD hands on.

Picture this: Rox is in her university library, passionately helping her fellow students study for their upcoming economics exam. However if you want an introduction to the basics of ADHD- perhaps you're questioning whether an ADHD diagnosis fits you, or you're looking for some tips for common ADHD symptoms- then this is a good book to start with. Dirty Laundry Unveiled" is a transformative book that delves into the deep-rooted shame experienced by adults with ADHD and offers practical guidance to foster understanding and support. Pink and Emery reinforce the point that acceptance doesn't equal "no accountability" but rather realistic, practical strategizing.

Roxy, your openness about your own issues and willingness to share the messy stinky disorganized but creative fun spontaneous-genius side of what we deal with is so helpful to both neurodivergent and neurotypical folks. This book; in high contrast with others written by doctors; is full with real experiences, authentic anecdotes and real-life situations that the writter has gone through in her journey as someone living with ADHD. You are both a credit to the ADHD community and through this book have provided me with hope when looking into the future!

I now try not to get frustrated and remember that we see things differently, and that assistance and gentle reminders really go a long way! If you have ADHD - or love somebody who does - DIRTY LAUNDRY will change your life, and your relationships. And to paraphrase the great Kathy Burke, this is not so I can be considered ‘woke’ but so I can be considered less of an ‘ignorant f*cking tw*t’! You can imagine that lady’s amusement – and Rox’s embarrassment – when she showed up at the desk four hours later, having missed the flight again.

So even though my dark times are nothing compared to Roxanne's (familiarly "Rox" in the book) there are still an astonishing number of parallels.the main message still shines through, 'It's not our fault, it's our neuro divergent brains' which will help everyone who listens I'm sure. Not least of these are the supplies and materials for “House of Resin,” a company that she spent three weeks building after seeing someone making a beautiful wooden table inlaid with a waterfall made of blue resin. This book is fantastic at highlighting some common ADHD behaviours, constantly reminding you of the shame said behaviours will create, and how as their partner you can reframe your way of thinking. I don’t mean that in the way society does, as some kind of negative, some kind of too-much-ness—I mean it in the best way.

However, to get back to Rich’s point, I’m not surprised that when we meet people like me, they very often begin to cry.The couple have obviously struggled with her ADHD throughout their relationship, but penning twee anecdotes based on their TikTok / Instagram content does not a book make. I played this to my mum, and it started a really in-depth conversation that we’ve never had before, it made a way for me to open up about things I’ve never told her before.
