Description

The scene it builds into does end up feeling better value for money, though, aided by three small sub-assemblies – a bench, lamppost and wanted poster – that breathe life into LEGO Hogsmeade. And while it may not be a true 20th anniversary set in the sense that it doesn’t draw on a specific 2001 release, 76388 Hogsmeade Village Visit’s snowy décor does stoke slightly different flames of nostalgia.

Of course, Harry Potter is included in the box. He is joined by his best mate Ron Weasley, who is designed as a golden anniversary figure in this set. The residents of Hogsmeade include Ambrosius Flume and his wife. Both run the inn together. They also live in the apartment on the first floor. Even Madame Rosmerta, the pretty owner of Honeydukes, is one of the party. Not only does Potter's classmate Dean Thomas buy sweets from her, but Professor McGonagall features as well. As a little surprise there are 4 magical trading cards also in this box. A total of 16 map copies are in circulation. The comparatively small LEGO Harry Potter set can also be assembled by school children. The instructions are very well explained and the attention to detail in this set can be seen. LEGO Harry Potter Sets Numerous delightful buildings populate Hogsmeade, including the famed Honeydukes sweet shop. This structure appears relatively small and measures 17cm in height, excluding the two chimneys. Nevertheless, I think the scale seems appropriate and the shape certainly achieves wonderful realism, with dramatic roofs which are designed to lessen the accumulation of snow. It’s only a little, though, because by the time it’s assembled you won’t regret laying down the dosh for a build that seems readymade for expanding – whether through an existing Winter Village display, or in using it as a starting point for your own lesser-spotted Hogsmeade buildings. — Pictures — The same is true of the pub, which makes liberal use of fireplaces and candles to evoke the cosy feeling the real thing might present on a snowy winter’s day. These two-storey interiors are really the highlight of 76388 Hogsmeade Village Visit, and undoubtedly the most entertaining parts of the build, which is otherwise disappointingly straightforward.

Enter the Great Hall, decorated with with two long tables, Dumbledore’s golden-owl lectern and authentic accessories, such as the sorting hat. The LEGO Chamber of Secrets has an iconic circular entrance and a large statue with an opening mouth, revealing a corridor from where the Basilisk snake enters the room. This LEGO Harry Potter set also comes with a posable Basilisk, featuring opening jaws, a head section with 2 rotatable joints, and a tail comprising 3 reconfigurable parts to strike cool poses. Hogsmeade appears frequently throughout the Harry Potter story, although this famed location remains notably underrepresented in LEGO sets. 76388 Hogsmeade Village Visit therefore seems appealing, particularly because these structures capture appropriate charm.

Listed Building Adjacent: 1186 EH Ref 1152642 Stucley House and Tossells House (Tossells House), Fore Street (east side), Chulmleigh The large, modular LEGO® Harry Potter™ Hogwarts™ Chamber of Secrets (76389) playset is a versatile, stand-out toy that’ll enchant any fan of the Harry Potter movies. Listed Building Adjacent: 1192 EH Ref 1106717 Homeleigh House (Gilsons), Fore Street, (west side), Chulmleigh Ambrosius' wife, known only as Mrs Flume, features brighter clothing. The lavender and pink colours are appealing, complemented by Mr Flume's hat. Additionally, I love the sweet pattern across her shawl. However, another head would have been appreciated because the example here is shared with Helga Hufflepuff and Molly Weasley, from past Harry Potter sets. This dark orange hair piece looks excellent though. While the smaller sets in the 20th anniversary wave are mostly content to rely on the iconic trio plastered on this year’s boxes, 76388 Hogsmeade Village Visit leans into the new territory it represents as a set in its minifigure selection, too, bringing us three brand new characters among its seven-strong line-up. Madam Rosmerta and yet another brand new Professor McGonagall are the real highlights in terms of minifigure design, but there’s not really a duff character among the lot – especially if you’re still building your own army of Harrys, and especially if you’re collecting the golden 20th anniversary minifigures. — Price — That’s particularly true in Honeydukes, the ground floor of which offers a veritable cornucopia of colourful printed pieces to play with. It’s reminiscent of 75978 Diagon Alley’s interiors in all the best ways, right down to its tiled floor, and really does feel like a stepping stone to that larger 18+ build. After a long day at the local christmas market, travelers as well as villagers can now indulge themselves with the best food and drink in town! Subsequently they can enjoy a well-deserved night's rest in comfortable rooms upstairs. Various white wedge plates and tiles adorn the roof, representing gathered snow. The design works nicely, surrounding a dormer window. The consistent angles between roof slopes seem authentic, while the narrow chimneys appear perfect for Hogsmeade. Textured roof tiles would have enhanced the building further, although these exposed studs are fairly successful.

LEGO® building kits satisfy rigorous industry quality standards to ensure they are consistent, compatible and connect and pull apart perfectly every time – it’s been that way since 1958. In addition to consultations with the consultee listed, we will publicise the application in accordance with national requirements and our local policy. We’re talking specifically about the LEGO Harry Potter video games, both of which feature Hogsmeade in levels and as a free play area, and both while covered in snowfall. In that sense, the deliberate design choice to plant 76388 Hogsmeade Village Visit firmly in winter is both accurate to how we see the location portrayed on screen, and plays into the anniversary celebrations in an alternative – but no less welcome – way. — Characters — Listed Building Adjacent: 1185 EH Ref 1106715 The Old Bank House, Alliance Building Society and Lloyds Bank, Fore Street, (east side), Chulmleigh This little inn is completely build out of the parts of set 76388 Hogsmeade Villige Visit (additionally some of the spare parts of the set). The thistle on the reverse seems particularly appropriate, given its association with Scotland. Madam Rosmerta also features a unique torso and her medium nougat hair looks wonderful, accurately reflecting the original character. However, this head appears quite regularly and an alternative design would have been preferable, avoiding this unnecessary angry expression. This magical, modular system lets kids aged 9 and up continue adding rooms to create an entire Hogwarts™ Castle.
