Your words, like your reviews, bring books to life and give them a voice before the front cover is even turned. Grandma’s made it clear that if Ellie doesn’t succeed in her challenge, she and Jolly the cat will change places for good! It’s a fantastic independent book seller that will actually be responsive and select appropriate books for you. Ellie soon realises that a girl trapped in a cat’s body needs some help and that she must learn some manners and make some friends fast.

Jolly the cat is seen as a very well behaved feline by grandma so she is very content at being changed into a girl. Ellis meets some interesting characters, spiders and rats, and manages to make friends with them and encourage them to help her complete a task set by her grandma. An amusing story with a good message about being nice to other people, it had me giggling aloud several times. It’s all well and good grandma turning Ellie into a cat but grandma soon knows she has made a mistake in losing her temper; the switch bodies spell has a time limit - if Ellie doesn't find the ring in a day, she will stay a cat forever! It portrays a theme across to children that it isn't worth being selfish as it can lead to consequences. You guys were so fab and Dawn was such a lovely presence in the schools - I will absolutely be in touch next time I'm in your neck of the woods. They would also only drop off a case of books and leave us to run it – it was so lovely to have you on hand to chat to the children and recommend them books, as well as the small (but appreciated!

This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally). As she starts to make friends with the other animals in the house, the mice and the spiders, Ellie starts to learn how to be a good friend. What readers will notice with Malorie's new novel is how she has written from two different perspectives. A cautionary tale of brats, cats and a little bit of magic from much loved and best-selling author Malorie Blackman, brought to life in a delightfully fun reading by actor Esme Sears. A cautionary tale of brats, cats and a little bit of magic from much loved and best-selling author Malorie Blackman.

Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example. I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books. Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling. This short tale was first published in a different format as “Elaine, You’re a Brat” but this new incarnation under publisher Barrington Stoke’s “super readable” label and with their trademark dyslexia-friendly layout and typeface and Matt Robertson’s brilliantly lively and humorous illustrations is fully justified and should prove to be an enjoyable read for children of 8+ who prefer short chapter books.

There are very few illustrations in this book which I didn't like but a varied range of vocabulary to boost the children's literacy development. Ellie discovers that she has switched bodies with Jolly the cat and has only one day to find Grandma’s lost ring otherwise she will remain a cat forever. Ellie doesn't take to her life as a cat but what she does find is Jolly isn't very well thought of by the other creatures in and around grandma’s house. With the help of a brave mouse and a resourceful spider, Ellie succeeds in finding the ring, defeating the machinations of Jolly the cat and convincing her Grandma that she has learned her lesson. won the Young Telegraph/Gimme 5 Award - Malorie is the only author to have won this award twice - while Hacker also won the WH Smith Mind-Boggling Books Award in 1994.

When Amira's magical cat goes missing, she must embark on a perilous quest to save him, calm a mythical stormbird, and discover the truth about her past. She goes to visit her Grandma on holiday but little does she know she is in for a surprise which will teach her to change her ways. The inter-generational relationship between Ellie and her Grandma develops into something quite heart-warming too. Does the book contain anything that teachers would wish to know about before recommending in class (strong language, sensitive topics etc. So with a little bit of magic and some help from Jolly the cat, Grandma’s going to make sure that Ellie changes her ways.
