You may also find that this happens more with certain colours of filament than others. This is because different colours melt at slightly different temperatures and therefore for those with a slightly lower melting temperature you may get small amounts of filament still being extruded from the nozzle momentarily after the Start button has been pressed/released (this being the residual filament in the nozzle that had already been melted). If this happens, please either gently remove the unwanted stringy filament whilst still warm (and therefore soft) by pulling it swiftly away from the model, or wait until the filament has hardened and then remove carefully using a pair of scissors. To load new filament, firstly make sure the pen is turned on and the LED light is blue. Then place the filament into the loading hole at the top of the pen (the one next to where the power cable is inserted). Make sure the end of the filament is flat across the end before inserting (cut carefully with scissors if not). Insert the filament gently until it reaches the stop. Then simply press the Print button once and you will feel the filament being gently guided into the pen. This process will then continue automatically. Wait for the filament to be pulled all the way through the pen until you see it appear from the end of the nozzle. You can speed up this process by pressing the + button.

Or, why not get those creative juices really flowing and free draw some tasty candies! Make your own lollipops, cake toppers or sweets to treat your friends and family! With the Play pen, you can even draw in three dimensions. To do that, you set the pen at its slowest extrusion speed, draw a small circle on a surface to act as a base, and then slowly bring the pen upward, keeping the filament taut, and it will harden even as you draw. In this manner, you can connect elements, draw spirals, and more. You can also make a three-dimensional object by creating two-dimensional objects (say, the sides of a building) and then “welding” them together by extruding hot plastic along the seam while keeping it at the proper angle. One thing to note here: the Polaroid Play 3D Pen requires a USB power source and doesn’t come with a power adapter to plug into the wall. Any USB power source that can supply 2 Amps will do, though, so the USB power adapter for your phone or a USB port on your computer will probably work. The 3Doodler Create Plus comes with a plug-in power adapter. Next, make sure that your filament is inserted correctly into the pen. If you already have filament loaded please unload completely from the pen (by pressing and holding the Power button for a couple of seconds and waiting for the filament to be completely retracted). Once removed, please ensure that the end of the filament is flat across the end (cut carefully with scissors if not) before re-inserting into the Loading Point in the top of the pen (next to where the power cable is inserted). This brilliant pen, which is suitable for everyone over 14, lets you easily create 3D drawings and structures. It comes with an app called the Trace App, which lets you create stencils from photos on your smartphone. Just put the included Screen Protector over your phone’s screen and trace over the stencils to create fantastic 3D designs! Next, make sure that your filament is inserted correctly into the pen. If you already have filament loaded please unload completely from the pen (by pressing and holding the Power button (marked ‘On/Off’) for a couple of seconds and waiting for the filament to be completely retracted). Once removed, please ensure that the end of the filament is flat across the end (cut carefully with scissors if not) before re-inserting into the loading hole in the top of the pen (next to where the power cable is inserted). You don’t need to be an experienced sweet maker to start creating your own unique Candy! Simply follow the steps below to create tasty, stunning creations that will wow family, friends and colleagues! For best results, draw directly onto

It is important to always use Polaroid 3D Pen Filament with your Polaroid Play+3D Pen as these have been specifically designed to work in conjunction with each other which means challenges such as this are minimised.

WOOD

If you’ve managed to get to grips with the above techniques, why not become an expert Candy maker, by using the CandyPlay Pen to create three-dimensional models, treats or gifts! Both loading and retracting filament proved hassle-free in my testing. This generally wasn’t the case with the WobbleWorks 3D pens I’ve reviewed, such as the 3Doodler Create+ Leather Edition. Several got filament jams, and I would have to open up the pen and extract the plug of filament with a tool. In testing, I did a few 3D constructions, but mostly drew some free-form objects or traced patterns on stencil. My experience was quite enjoyable, and the pen was easy enough to control, although I never did quite master changing the extrusion speed. Artistically, I would classify myself as a doodler, and the Play lent itself to this form of unguided creation. Good, Messy Fun To load new filament, firstly make sure the pen is turned on and the LED light is blue. Then place the filament into the loading hole at the top of the pen (the one next to where the power cable is inserted). Make sure the end of the filament is flat across the end before inserting (cut carefully with scissors if not). Insert the filament gently until it stops. Then simply press the Start button once and you will feel the filament being gently guided into the pen. This process will then continue automatically. Wait for the filament to be pulled all the way through the pen until you see it appear from the end of the nozzle. You can speed up this process by pressing the ‘Speed Control’ button, until 3 green LED lights are showing indicating the extrusion speed is set to rapid.
