Also equipped with Triple Pedals unit with the same functions as the grand piano, which gives you a more authentic piano playing experience.

I am a beginer player and wanted a keyboard that would match the feel of my teacher's piano. She has an upright Steinbach and the Donner keyboard feels very similar which helps my practice. It's a beautiful piece of furniture and looks great in my lounge. For the price the sound is very good with a full tonal range and good dynamics. As you can see from the image above, the DDP-80 is a stylish keyboard piano and, in my opinion, the best keyboard piano in its design class. It is one of the few digital pianos that have a wooden frame and legs. The keyboard is minimalist, stylish, and modern, and looks great in almost any room. The DDP-80 is unlike other Donner digital pianos as far as the design and other visual aspects go. The device is housed in a wooden chassis, and the metal feet are disguised to look just as if they were made of the same wood. So this means that the DDP-80 is not just a digital gadget that you hide when you’re not using it. It’s very appealing and can serve as a decorative asset to match any modern or classic type of furniture. Image: Donner Launched in January 2022, Casio’s latest offering features a pretty unique selling point in the shape of vocal synthesis. In a feature not found on any other keyboard at this price – or indeed any other keyboard full stop – the CT-S1000V will ‘sing’ lyrics typed into it via an app on your mobile device in one of 20 different voices. Donner is the German word for thunder, and the Donner DDP-80 digital piano surely rolled into our offices like thunder. I’ve always been interested in digital music instruments, and while I never intended to turn my passions into a profession, I still love the art of music production and creative play. Usually, it would be more likely to spot me in a studio with midi controllers and short, portable midi keyboards. Still, I was delighted when we got the opportunity to test the Donner DDP-80 digital piano and tell you all about it today. The Donner DDP-80 digital piano is a great choice for those who are looking for an affordable and reliable instrument. It has all the features that you would expect from a digital piano, and it is effortless to use. You can combine it with a studio setup over midi and USD connection, but anyone who is not techy can simply use it as a delightful standalone instrument. This product comes with a MIDI USB interface. You can input the MIDI signal of the piano into the computer, and then get the filtered sound you want on the music editing software of the computer, but this sound cannot be played from the speaker of the piano. We’d call the DDP-80’s sound acceptable rather than stellar. It’s bright, but with a slightly synthetic tone that you don’t get on the absolute top-end digital pianos. The keyboard is reasonably playable, if a little clunky and loud at times - if you’ve got the volume turned down fairly low the sound of the keys can be a little distracting. Our family of beginner players love this cute little addition. I like that it doesn’t take up much space but fits in well in our living room. Both of the new PSRs offer “high resolution” voices, and are the only models in the PSR-E range to feature two channels for insert effects. Like the sounds, these effects are said to be “top-quality”. I'm in my 30s and learned to play at school then just dabbled on a keyboard now and then to keep it up. So while I'm not a beginner I'm certainly not great yet and not looking to play professionally just enjoy my own practise of favourite songs every few days.

The Donner DDP-80 has 88 full size keys, and in trying to accurately mimic the feel of a real piano, these keys are fully weighted and graded hammer action keys, so they are heavier in the bass range and lighter as you move up the keyboard. The action is a dual sensor action, and while I’m not at ALL an expert on key actions, I would be willing to bet, looking at the depth of the case, that the DDP-80 might have a longer pivot point than some entry level digital pianos, because the keys don’t seem to feel THAT much heavier as you play up the key, which CAN be an issue with pianos that have shorter pivot points. Donner DDP-80 Keys While perfect posture would require the mounting of the P-45 on its optional stand it is table top friendly and - thanks in part to its bulk - can be played fairly comfortably when placed on the ground/rug/lawn etc. Aesthetics The piano does look nice and kind of "classes up" the place. It has a nice wood finish and it's made from particle board. Donner kind of misleads you into thinking it was handcrafted and made from solid wood but...it's definitely not. The color looks a little different in person than the pictures online. The one I received has a darker, more reddish kind of wood grain but I think it looks nice. Do the legs/does the stand come attached? I want to know if the legs can be screwed off and I can store it without the legs when its not in use.

While I mentioned that there are advantages of having a stationary digital piano that looks great in your place helps many angles, it’s also a disadvantage to some who don’t have that much space in their apartment or house that they can’t just put the device in the wardrobe while they aren’t playing. While the DDP-80 isn’t as heavy as a real piano, it’s certainly still not that easy to move around, so for all who might not have that much space, they could consider an alternative product from Donner from their range of portable digital pianos, or decide for a different maker, if they find a better one. Image: Donner I'd be wary of some of the accounts on reddit that post how much they love the piano, how great it is, etc. because they seem to be paid posts from recently created accounts and no post history. The Donner DDP-80 has 128 notes of polyphony; and while this is already quite good for the price range, I want to talk about how polyphony plays a big role with the DDP-80 because it only has one sound. So overall, how does this action compare to other entry level digital piano actions? Well, in comparing the DDP-80 action to the “Big 3: Roland, Yamaha and Casio, keep in mind that all of their actions will be found in pianos that are more expensive than the Donner: This digital piano is perfect for people looking for a wooden keyboard option that looks and sounds like a real piano. Donner creates some of the most realistic-sounding digital pianos, and this one is no exception. For people looking to downsize from a grand piano, this model is only 50 inches long by 14 inches wide, so it fits in almost any room.

If you are near a TV or a complex magnetic environment, there is some chance that the sound and resonance of the piano will be affected. Please keep a suitable space. Conclusion I bought this piano out of necessity because it met my price, size, and aesthetic requirements. If given the choice, more budget, and space I definitely would have bought something better from a reputable brand. In the future, I'm probably going to sell it and upgrade to something better (hopefully acoustic) when we're able to move out. I also wanted to write this review because there aren't many out there on the DDP-80 and it's one of the first ads that comes up when you search for it so a lot of new players might be tempted to buy it. If size really is at a premium (or perhaps you're looking for something that does a little more than basic piano emulation) then the Yamaha Piaggero NP-12 fills a much-needed gap in the market. This piano is wonderful! It sounds beautiful! I have another digital piano that I bought used about two years ago. It does not even compare to this one. This piano feels like I am playing a real piano. I love it! Of course, the DDP-80 also comes with an optional piano stool that perfectly matches it for size and aesthetics and – via the optional Customised Music Stand – Donner can even engrave the DDP-80’s stand with words of your choice – adding a little touch of personalisation that the owner will love.If you are a piano purist that is only concerned with playing piano without all the bells and whistles, and you are looking for a an attractive furniture style piano with a good piano sound, decent action and great speakers, then I think the Donner DDP-80 is a great option. It’s almost like a basic acoustic piano with the most important advantages of a digital. Roland PHA4 (Roland FP-10, FP-30x): I think it has a similar weight, but since this is only a dual sensor, the Roland triple sensor action with escapement, will still be a much more realistic action Compared to a portable digital piano, the DDP-80 is very likely to be placed in a stationary position. While this might permanently take up some space in your living area, the advantages here are that you can sit on the piano anytime you feel like it and start playing. As some musicians with digital instruments might have noticed, if you don’t have a setup that you can sit down on and start playing immediately, you often end up simply not playing. The mood can be gone just as fast as the inspiration – isn’t it sad when that happens? With the DDP-80 digital piano, you don’t have this issue.
