Then you want to cut your wooden batten so that it is the same height as your bath. Do this carefully with your hand saw. Sometimes the advantages of being able to choose every single detail of your bathroom’s design can also be its downfall, with customers sometimes forgetting certain aspects or getting overwhelmed by choice when shopping online. On some of the more expensive bathroom suites, bath panels are made out of wooden materials, but staining MDF in colours like oak and walnut is very popular. How to Choose the Correctly Sized Bath Panel Panels are carefully designed to bring not only the aesthetic beauty but also practicality and ease of function to your bathroom. Before you begin, there are a few things that you will need to install your acrylic panel correctly. To measure the height, run the tape measure from the top of the panel to the bottom of the plinth. Screw the panel into the plinth by placing screws every 1 foot (0.30 m) or so on both the top and bottom of the plinth. For attaching a single panel, such as the long front bath panel, you could place shallow battens to the bottom of the panel. That way, it keeps the panel upright against your bathroom flooring - such as tiles - while providing a seamless join between the panel and floor. Be assured that whatever your style and requirements, we have what you need and will guide you through the process to give you that peace of mind.

Installing a Wooden Bath Panel

If you own or have bought a bath that isn’t free-standing then you’ll need at least one bath panel; but just how do you fit a bath panel?

Are you planning a new bathroom or kitchen makeover? Shop online with Plumbworld for guaranteed lowest prices and next day delivery. Firstly, you’ll need to get your measurements, from the rim of the bath to the floor so you know the height you need the panel to be. If your tub is a unique shape, you may need to measure the length, too. Using your pencil, make markings where the panel sits on the floor. This will be used as a guide for your wooden batten. Align your bath panel to the side of your bath, using the spirit level to ensure that the panel is perfectly straight from top to bottom.

1. Measure your bath

Adjust the height of the plinth if your panel has one. Some bath panels, typically wooden ones, come with a "plinth," which is a plank that screws in along the bottom of the panel. It overlaps the main panel so you can move it up and down to adjust the height. Lay the plinth on the floor and then place the edge of the panel on top so they're overlapping. Move the panel up and down on the plinth until the height reaches the measurement you took for your opening. [5] X Research source This is particularly apparent when investing in products that require a number of different components such as baths and shower enclosure, so choosing the right bath panel for your new, can sometimes be confusing. Make sure that your wooden panel has a wooden plinth. This allows you to adjust the height of your panel if needed and also assists with any slanting. This can be fitted either behind the panel to add more depth. Or in front to create a “skirting” look. Using your tape measure and handsaw, measure the length of your bath and carefully cut your wooden batten so that they are the same length.

Mark where the panel will sit and then line your rebated wood/batten against it. The rebate should, thanks to its grooved edge, allow for the bottom lip of the panel to slot in. Next, you need to align your bath panel along your bath and mark where the inside edge meets the wall. This is where you will install your supporting batten.

Providing high-quality bathroom products, however large or small, for the home and commercial sectors is our foremost priority matched with guaranteeing you the best prices. Fitting a bath panel can be straightforward if you want to save the extra money from hiring a professional - especially if you are only installing a new panel.

You might find that your wooden plinth needs to be trimmed if you have skirting boards in the way. If you need to trim your plinth, ensure that you seal any cut edges with wood varnish to protect from water damage. Some panels are made from an MDF type material which can then be modified easily to your bathroom by either staining or painting. Bath panels come in all shapes, sizes and materials and can either be functional or more decorative - continuing the decor of the space or merging with your flooring. A bath panel is an easy way to give your bathroom a refresh.

4. Screw down the wood batten

If you are using a plinth that isn’t already attached then you may need to cut it to size, so follow the above instruction. Then, attach it to the main panel with adhesive. Depending on the type and position of the bath in your bathroom, you may have as many as three panels - one for each side that is exposed. Aside from hiding the underside of the tub, a bath panel will also cover piping and prevent water getting underneath, which can lead to mould. Rebated wood is wood that has a groove cut into the edge - so you can slot the panel under the groove.
