It’s dark inside the ghost house but we find out afterwards that the staff member was alerted to the phone because it was ringing, the screen blinking on and off. While this story appears to carry on only a short while after the last one in the series, it’s not necessary to have read it or any of the previous books to read this. Weaver lives up to his name well in The Last Goodbye, masterfully handling then bringing together a variety of fascinating threads that span time and geography. He lures the reader into an intriguing tale then ratchets up the tension as his long-time hero and others are thrust into dire jeopardy. Another very good instalment in a very good series, well worth a look for crime fiction fans.
