At the time of release, the studio bragged that the disc authors had maxed out the bit rate throughout the movie to ensure optimal compression. This is a rather odd addition, as it should really accompany the 4-part Capturing Avatar Documentary to be found on the second disc.

I can’t imagine how hard the compression techs must have worked to squeeze every little bit of quality out here – and they have, by and large, succeeded wonderfully. every facet of the production, from the germination of Cameron's first ideas for the script all the way through to the film's blockbusting release. If you're won over by the movie's trippy new world, the characters will be forgivable as broad, useful archetypes rather than standard-issue stereotypes, and you might be able to overlook the unsurprising central plot. The characters in Avatar are not just vessels for the story; they are richly developed, making it easy for the audience to connect with them emotionally. And the really clever forward-planners will just wait until they are fully 3D equipped and watch Avatar the only way that it should be seen – in 3D. one, just sit back and enjoy the show, and two, there are resources to help you get through this addiction.

For more about Avatar: The Way of Water and the Avatar: The Way of Water Blu-ray release, see Avatar: The Way of Water Blu-ray Review published by Jeffrey Kauffman on June 14, 2023 where this Blu-ray release scored 4. That’s probably going to sound like sacrilege to some of you younger readers, but I really don’t mind a big epic film split over two discs, as was the case with the 4-disc LOTR: Extended Edition DVDs.Collecting influences from sci-fi books, movies, and indigenous life, Cameron merged high technology with basic storytelling, emerging with a feature that unexpectedly topped “Titanic,” becoming a phenomenon. Disney has announced that it will release a Collector's Edition 4K Blu-ray of James Cameron's Avatar (2009), starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Michelle Rodriguez. Changes are not always easy to notice in Extended Cuts of movies, but this one makes them fairly blatantly obvious right from the get-go, kicking off with an entire set of scenes that take place on future Earth. But when the more elaborate Blu-ray special edition of Avatar comes out later this year (and when the 3D version appears on the format a couple years from now), I hope Cameron splits the film onto two BD-50 discs. The surrounds get a full workout and are in constant use, providing a great atmosphere which immerses you in this other-world environment.

Judged on its own for Blu-ray high-definition quality, this AVC/1080p presentation – framed at the original 1. I've watched 'Avatar' three times now, and the new Extended Cut did nothing to change my opinion one way or the other. As I was watching this, I was never tempted to twist my neck around in reaction to some cheesy surround audio effect whispering past my ear. Irrespective of cut (and, for what it’s worth, I’ll reiterate the fact you probably all already own the best cut) Avatar is little more than an entertaining blockbuster without its extra dimension, and, honestly, 16 minutes’ longer probably now just makes the movie an even hour too long, rather than just 45 minutes. Those who already bought Avatar back in May have a tough decision ahead of them – do you really want to have access to two alternative cuts to the movie if they aren’t actually all that good, and are certainly no better than the Theatrical Version?Released over a decade ago, the film continues to captivate audiences with its breathtaking visuals, compelling characters, and an immersive world that transcends the boundaries of traditional filmmaking. A few of my attempts at playback failed unless I cleared my Blu-ray player's Persistent Storage beforehand. The next time we see him, he's a human again, when the tree god transfers his consciousness back to the Avatar. But I think you’ll be surprised, because the film’s dazzling technological showcase means you won’t care. There is literally nothing to be critical about with this rendition, it is so good that you get lost in it (visually) as much as any 2D title has ever enabled you to do on image quality alone.

Showcasing these three levels (which can be switched through using the remote) it is easy, and intriguing to see just how much work went into the movie’s effects construction. And the atmospheric effects, combined with the dynamic cinematography, do work to give the image a surprisingly good 3D-dimensional feel, for a 2D-only presentation. There’s also some bits of dialogue which get across the whole US allegory in an even more blunt fashion. And you also can’t deny that the film has made obscene amounts of money, so it’s certain to trigger a ton of copycat 3D-fantasy epics, and possibly even its own sub-genre.
