About this deal
This follows the story of five women, who all have ties to Camp Firelight, a summer camp for girls of all ages. Good-humoured, unpretentious and a bit eccentric, it's more like having a well-read friend than a subscription to a literary review. Since AN EAGLE IN THE SNOW recounts Billy’s life, it makes sense that I would be attached to him since when I first learned of him.
The station master came past our window then, waving his green flag, blowing his whistle, his cheeks puffed out so that his face looked entirely round, like a pink balloon, I thought.
The powerful new novel from the master storyteller – inspired by the true story of one man who might have stopped World War II. Slightly Foxed introduces its readers to books that are no longer new and fashionable but have lasting appeal. This is a good book but the thing that will make you jump is when this young boy has a chance to stop WW2 (World War 2) but it might be reverse-phycology. Well Barney, the main character, has had the same thing happen to him when a German fighter plane bombed his house. I didn't know this was written as a children's book and felt a bit foolish once it arrived and I realised my "mistake" (? The finale as Mother Nature plays her cruel trick on the defending Romans is superbly executed by Breem as the tension mounts and the fury of the starving barbarians is unleashed. The way Michael Morpugo develops the character, Billy, is amazing and easy to understand and fun to read for both adults and children. As with much of his work this book is just as suitable for young people as for adults - and as always so well written.
