The exact image that this reminds me of is the scene from the first book of Clive Barker's Abarat, when Candy (the protagonist) literally summoned the sea to her hometown for the first time. Inspired by their memories of summer, three perfumers invite us on a journey through a new interpretation of Eau d'Issey in a limited-edition eau de toilette for women. The Cypress is perfectly mixed with the Balsam Fir to give the scent a airy, crisp, soft woody veil.

This new version takes the proverbial cake in an awkward and confusing name: L'eau D'Issey Pour Homme (hundreds of them by now) Summer Edition (dozens of them) by Kevin Lucbert. The scent itself is soooo beautiful, perfect for a hot summer day that you don't want to go heavy on perfume but still different than all the other guys around you cause yeah, it has citrusy and water-y notes in it but, the pine and cypress with their resinous green tones prevail. On my skin, it develops into something rather too marine for my taste, like Bvlgari Aqva pour homme (another beautiful scent that sadly seems to work better on clothes than on my skin). This is a superb release, I tried it in the mall with some other stuff and tried it on my skin because I didn't put enough juice on the blotter to test it correctly. L'Eau d'Issey Summer Edition by Kevin Lucbert was created by Dora Baghriche, Marie Salamagne and Daphné Bugey. It is a perfect example of a great scent that will get overlooked and few will ever try precisely because of the confusing marketing. It for a man who wants to be back in a tropical exotic location with its inviting ocean sea and glistening sand. L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme Summer Edition by Kevin Lucbert was created by Dora Baghriche, Marie Salamagne and Daphné Bugey.

I love this fragrance in hot summer when I don't feel like wearing my citrusy hot weather perfumes, namely Chanel Eau Cristalle Verte and Issey Miyake A Scent. Top notes are Watery Notes, Calabrian bergamot and Neroli; middle notes are Frangipani, Orange Blossom and Rose; base notes are Musk, Coconut Milk and Driftwood. The fragrance opens very sharp and in the start I only smell the conifers, which makes the top to woody and sharp for my taste. Then head to Sicily with Daphne Bugey, in the heart of the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento: where the freshness of the wind mixes with the orange, bergamot, and lemon trees nestled in the middle of the solemn ruins of the temple. It contains notes of freesia, grapefruit, cardamom, Indian jasmine, sambac, centifolia rose and cedar.L'Eau D'issey Summer opens up with sweet litchi and sour grapefruit then moves onto a blend of sweet exotic fruits of passionfruit and guava, before finishing on a base of smooth sweet vanilla with precious woods. More importantly, the drydown is as good and interesting as the opening, it's not often that you can get such a feature from a summer designer scent.

I was disappointed initially, not least because the inferior quality of the packaging was too obvious not to think that they must have cut corners on the juice as well. The Pine is beautifully done: green, fresh, herbal but not harsh or overpowering like in Polo Green. The performance is naturally toned down as so delicate a composition would suggest, so adjust expectations. And unlike a big number of summer fragrances : Exit the classic woods, enter the conifers, they're realisticly done, you'll imagine yourself in a pine / cypress forest.

Based on future testing and side by side comparison I might come back to add more details to this review. To illustrate these fragrant emotions, Kevin Lucbert, a young French artist, has imagined a brand new typeface for L'Eau d'Issey which is drawn according to an imaginary map symbolizing these fragrant stopovers.
