If you have a penis, get partially erect. Being fully erect can make the urethral opening tighter or make the penis too sensitive for insertion. Don’t overdo it. Be aware that the urethral orifice needs time to actually physically grow and adapt and that it is not simply a matter of how much distension you can tolerate. The tiny step increments and the abrupt but gentle ramps between steps, that these dilators provide, are there to pleasurably optimize dilation and to make it easy to progressively stretch or enlarge the urethral orifice in small regulated increments (most other sounds are sized in much coarser increments), but that “baby steps” process is also very conducive to arousal, which may mask discomfort and deceptively lessen your perception of the distension, increasing the chance of the urethral orifice accidentally tearing. Be patient, don’t get too exuberant, exercise common sense, and use at your own risk. This will help loosen the urethral muscles and make the toy more likely to slip out. If a warm bath doesn’t work, spread some lube around the urethral opening and try to drip some down into your urethra. This can make it easier to slip the toy out.

You can also get custom-made ear plugs which are moulded to the shape of your ear. They're more expensive but tend to be a better fit, particularly if you struggle with standard ear plugs because of issues such as having narrow ear canals. Pricier products tend to have extras, such as a range of differently sized ear bud tips, soft medical-grade silicone, or performance coatings (eg aloe vera or antibacterial silver, hypoallergenic). Silicone is suited very well for this type of toy because it can be sterilized safely without compromising its integrity. Ear plugs can cause problems by not giving wax a chance to escape, so it's important for your ears to have a rest between uses. If you're exposed to noise at work of an average 85dB or more across the day or week, your employer should look at measures to reduce this, including providing the ear protection equipment needed.
