Any other topical acne preparation or preparation containing a peeling agent (eg, benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, sulfur, or tretinoin [vitamin A acid]) First, soak the corn, callus, or wart in warm water for about 5 minutes to soften the treatment area. Dry thoroughly. Your doctor may direct you to use a pumice stone, callus file, or emery board to carefully remove the top dead layers of skin after soaking and before applying the medication. This dead skin removal is only to help the medication work better. Do not try to rub the wart or callus off. True allergy to topical salicylic acid is rare, however serious reactions including anaphylaxis have been reported. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: diabetes, poor blood circulation (such as peripheral vascular disease), skin infection/irritation. Do not use an OTC acne product again if you have developed a serious allergic reaction from it. Side Effects of Sal-Acid Plaster

The use of topical salicylic acid formulated in simple dosage forms at high concentrations and in evaporative vehicles designed to concentrate in use, thereby localising the keratolytic precisely over circumscribed small areas of skin, is commonplace. It has become exceedingly popular with doctors and patients alike, where its safety and efficacy have been very well established through widespread use over many decades. In deciding to use a medicine, the risks of taking the medicine must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you and your doctor will make. For this medicine, the following should be considered: Allergies Before using salicylic acid, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs- NSAIDs (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.Protect areas surrounding the affected area by applying petroleum jelly around the periphery of the area to be treated. If your doctor has directed you to use this medication, remember that your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Unless your hands are being treated, wash them immediately after applying this medicine to remove any medicine that may be on them. Dosing This medicine is for use only on the skin. Do not get any of it in your eyes, nose, or mouth . Rinse it off with water right away if it does get on these areas.

If you are going to have an MRI test, tell testing personnel if you are using the patch. Some patches may contain metals that can cause serious burns during an MRI. Ask your doctor whether you will need to remove your patch before the test and apply a new patch afterward, and how to do so properly. Apply plaster at bedtime, leave in place for at least 8 hours, remove plaster in the morning, and repeat every 24 hours as needed. It is very important that you use preparations strictly as directed on the label. Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, and do not use it for a longer time than recommended. Failing to follow instructions may lead to increased absorption through the skin and salicylic acid poisoning.Wash the area to be treated and dry thoroughly. Warts may be soaked in warm water for 5 minutes before drying.
