Description

The Glenkinchie label was not well known until 1989, when United Distillers (now Diageo) started marketing it under the Classic Malts brand. Some wondered why Glenkinchie was chosen to instead of Rosebank, which was the better known distillery at the time. While Glenkinchie has always operated with just two stills, they are some of the largest stills in Scotland. I think the distillery’s greater production capability made the choice, both for use in the Classic Malts series and for closure, easy for Diageo, as they would have had to spend a considerable amount to get Rosebank up to the same capacity as Glenkinchie. Glenkinchie 12 year old single malt whisky is kinda new addition to the core range of this Lowland distillery. This is a entry level bottling released in 2007, replacing the 10 year old by Glenkinchie. Lowland has only six distilleries located in the region. Like the name suggests, Glenkinchie lies in a glen of the Kinchie Burn farmland near the village of Pencaitland, East Lothian. Located 15 miles from Edinburgh, making it “The Edinburgh Malt”. Founded in 1837, it was until 1989, they started to get more recognizability when United Distillers started marketing them under the Classic Malts brand (owned by Diageo nowadays). It wasn’t until 1881 that whisky-making restarted, when a group of Edinburgh investors, seeing the rise in blended whisky sales, came on board. Under the eye of MajorJames Grey the plant was rebuilt and expanded into its current form in 1890.

Unfortunately, I also have some chemicals. The nose is young and a bit rough but not bad. After sipping it thhe nose shows vanilla We may sell, license, transfer, assign or in any other way dispose of the Service (including Members) to any third party without any notification to you, e.g. (but without limitation) in connection with any reorganization, restructuring, merger or sale, or other transfer of assets. After opening up with a drop of water, a complex sweetness, like toffee came through - moreso than the tamadhu 12, which I felt was of a less complex sweetness but felt it was less complex than the Glen Scotia's salted caramel feel. Bought this Glenkinchie in early 2011, more than two years ago, tasted it once or twice being mildly satisfied but a little dissapointed. So much i do know, that all a malt needs to show it's true colours, is a natural quality presentation, good casks, a little air, lots of time, patience and perseverence. No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. Some "premium" whiskeys really are quite terrible, while some mass market products are good enough to pour into a decanter and serve to the Duke of Edinburgh. Nose: Starts crispy, green apple juice and hints of cinnamon and nuts. Gets mellow and very floral over time. Water brings lemon notes and meringue to the mix, and the nutty notes get salty. Its time as a single malt brand only came in 1998, when it was chosen ahead of Rosebank as the Lowland representative within Diageo’s Classic Malt Selection. The body is fine, but the taste is again quite middle of the road, just like the nose. Some sweet grains (you can actually taste the barley), pear, some citrus fruit and loads of oak. It also reminds me a bit of crème brûlée, but not made by the best chef. It even becomes a tad bitter towards the end. You may call this a floral nose. Quite some grasses and flowers and pretty grainy too. Only after a few moments do I get some toffee, honey and some pears. Lime creeps in slowly. Some vanilla and nuts. But not much else and to be honest: this is a very mediocre and not very interesting nose.
