The boot liners are closer to the toes so the cold water is closer too which means they are not as warm. It will depend on the stiffness and construction of the boot, your usage, the amount that you sweat, the terrain and the weather. Most of my time is spent sitting in a blind with very little activity which produces less perspiration than tracking deer. I would say for low volume feet the Quetico tall is a good one because of the wrap lace – I wrap it pretty tight around my ankles for extra security.

They claim to be Goretex, I have no real understanding of what Goretex looks or feels like and I am assuming the Goretex is within the layers of the material. Also in the past I've had a pair of Karrimor walking boots which began to leak after about a year (but outside the guarantee).The Alpines come waterproof, but with lots of wear will likely start to get water seepage (it’s inevitable in waterproof shoes). If however you are perhaps an occasional rider who wants to pop these in with his "just in case" waterproof kit then they'll be great. Even when new, and the Goretex is doing its job, there's a tendency for the water to soak through the outer, meet the Goretex, wick up to the top of the boot, and then down the inside. We kept your grip and fingers in mind; designed to be durable, waterproof and made for maximum comfort and manueverability.

Right now using the Keen Targhee mids, which wear out fairly quickly, but no sign yet of the waterproof breathable (WPB) liners ('Keen-Dry') wrinkling or bunching up.

I am still wearing a size 38, but I have more room than I do in most of my other size 38 barefoot boots (they fit almost like a 39). They do run small, especially if you have wide feet (and I would skip entirely if you have extra wide feet).

For me the heel cup is a little stiff (I have a sensitive achilles), but Justin wears his frequently in the winter and they are very practical.
