Get a nice big aperture if you want to see as many stars as possible, and a smaller aperture if lighter weight and portability are important to you. Beware of magnifications higher than 12x if you don't want too shaky an image without support, while also maintaining a decent field of view.

Paradoxically, although the image quality may be considered 'average', the resultant effect is that you can potentially see more detail under adverse conditions through stabilisation than you perhaps would when using a top-drawer binocular in the same circumstances. IS is obviously the next step for any would be alpha binocular, as any supplier trying to bypass this will get crushed by cheaper Chinese glass.
