This is quite a chilling piece on adults' perceptions of the dangers children experience during their hours of play and the lengths to which parents can go to protect them from these real or perceived dangers. After pursuing careers (which ultimately failed) in music, filmmaking, and full-time drug use, he eventually circled back to his bloody bread and butter: writing highly disturbing and bizarre material that tends to explore the human potential for evil. The Playground (available for FREE on audible) manages to pack a walloping creepiness punch into a short story of a father troubled by his memories of his time at the playground, and what such an environment ( “an immense iron industry whose sole product was pain, sadism and sorrow”) might entail for his young son.

I loved the title for this book, The Playground, because it is the sort of metaphor that worked on many levels. In Playground we find two unlucky families being picked to try out a new playground at the Borden estate not realizing the day will not be filled with laughter and fun, but screams and death. Saying that – I do my best to try and support as many as I can, and with this novel having been nominated for Best Novel for this years Splatterpunk Awards, I figured this was a perfect one to check out! It may sound terrible to some when I say I enjoyed the heck out of reading this, but it pertains to Aron's writing style and his ability to develop a story that completely engages one while reading.

In all, Bradbury has published more than thirty books, close to 600 short stories, and numerous poems, essays, and plays. Needless to say, his parents were not thrilled by this tale and rather than acknowledging his creative genius suspected he might be a budding serial killer. Over the last number of years, Aron Beauregard has emerged as one of Extreme/Splatterpunk Horror’s true Heavy Weights. I love talking about books with fellow bookworms, so I started my blog, Never Enough Novels, and joined the group here at Literary Quicksand! Eve is a teacher and stay-at-home mom who has decided to start tutoring her oldest daughter and other dyslexic children. The antagonist is a pedophile rapist, who takes interest in one of the girls and starts hoping for her to survive so that she can "take her under her wing" and she's one of the richest women in the country. He sniffed the cutting odors of salve, raw adhesive, camphor, and pink mercurochrome, so strong it lay bitter on his tongue.
