My library just dropped this in my inbox and no slump in the world could keep me from reading and loving a Lynn Painter novel. I know I’ve sounded super down on this, but there were times I thought Charlie and Bailey had such cute interactions and were really great for each other.

Later in the book Scott sets Bailey straight on a few things and it really is obvious that her mother should’ve been honest with her much sooner. They didn’t get off to the best start but this is a new beginning and whilst they are still polar opposites, she starts to look forward to hanging out and gossiping about the waterpark guests and their coworkers—particularly two who keep flirting with each other.

The ones who “need to jump wholeheartedly into fictional romances, simply because escaping into the joy of what I didn’t have was somehow comforting and hopeful. Charlie and Bailey meet each other randomly a few times during the course of their early teenage life. Who then turns out to be a tall drink of half regular, half diet coke (iykyk), funny, sarcastic CINNAMON BUN WITH CREAMY CHEESE ICIING.

From witty repartee to swoon worthy kisses and THAT PERFECT NON-DATE SCENE THAT HAD ME IN FULL ON KICKING GIGGLING MODE, I WAS ENAMORED IMMEDIATELY.Sweet ole young adult romance written by Lynn painter is top tier book material and it will never not be! this book was nice, in the sense that they didn't have sex and i don't have to burn my eyes, but i think the lesson to take from this are that cute little moments, banter, or sex won't make up for plot-holes and character issues. somewhere between omaha and colorado i'd fallen truly, madly, fucking ridiculously hard for bailey mitchell. Charlie, despite coming across as a bit of an annoying, know-it-all had so much depth and growth in this book. oh my gawwwwwwd it's like a child was just taught what a swear word is and was told to never use it and then used it 5000 times in every breath.

AAAAND he was willing to give bailey his damn CAT that he loved so much just to prove that he'd want to see bailey forever. This is an enemies to friends to lovers story, with some deeper emotions of divorced parents and anxiety.

The characters were so much fun to learn about, and I really liked having the dual perspective from Bailey and Charlie. By the second chapter I was pretty hooked because the internal dialogue and verbal exchanges between the characters was pretty realistic and often hysterical, in my opinion. This book was also super easy and enjoyable to read- it's a great bingeable read to get you out a reading slump 🥰 There was also divorce rep that was a big part of the book, which i really appreciated. I loved that they also had multiple random meetings over the years before they even really got to know each other. my ratings for her other books) but i always expressed my dislike for them through horrible fear-inducing quotes from her books about sex, though i have a theory that they're actually interpretations of edvard munch's the scream. I loved every page honestly, and am wondering why on earth I haven’t read a Lynn Painter book before.
