If you go onto purchase something through these links, I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. The optical construction of 9 elements in 6 groups (including two aspherical elements) achieves the perfect balance of high image quality and compact size.

Since this is such a great multi-purpose lens, I like bringing it to situations where you want to keep things small and light, and you don’t want to be annoying to the people around you with big camera gear. Sure there are other more portrait focused lenses out there… but the combination of affordability, portability makes this lens a good choice especially for a first X series lens. I still use full frame for my professional work, although I have an X-E1 and recently purchased a lens adapter for it.

So I switched to Fujifilm X-T10, a system I knew little about but one that was getting rave reviews. Be that as it may and getting back to your images (which is the whole point of our photography, isn’t it, in spite of all the marvellous technology associated with cameras! Fujifilm has taken the right step forward with this lens design and it also solves all the problems that many of their lenses suffer from, such as very loose aperture rings, no weather sealing, and slow AF. There are people who will never purchase this lens because they believe that it’s not possible to create interesting photographs with it.

enjoys the edge in the extreme corners, the XF 35mm f2 greatly improves as you move into the frame even only a little. In practice the f2 is just more practical and the stop of light is really not worth the weight unless you really need that shallower depth of field. XF lenses have always been excellent save for a loose or rough-feeling aperture rings here, and an inconsistent focus ring there, but the XF 35mm F2 WR tightened all that up and just feels “right” in use. I’m not going to talk a whole lot about the technical aspects of the Fujinon XF 35mm f/2 R WR lens, as that information is already plentiful on the internet. Of course each lens must be used on its own brand of cameras; the Fuji won't work on LEICA, and even with an adapter the LEICA lenses become quite primitive on Fuji. The Fuji XF 35mm/2 is very good in the center even at f/2, but spherical aberration limits contrast at wide-open higher spatial frequencies as seen in the 45 cycles/mm graph. This Fujifilm lens is beautifully made with a metal exterior, which results in a surprisingly heavy optic for its compact size. The color in those pictures is made possible by three things: very slightly underexposing, Velvia and Color Chrome Effect. The 2 ED elements help control the green and purple fringing while the two aspherical elements help control the corner sharpness while keeping the coma under control. bigger or camera-original © file to explore on your computer; mobile devices rarely display full resolution images at full resolution. Summary The Fujifilm XF 35mm f2 is a compact prime lens with standard coverage that performs much better than you might expect. The manual focusing ring is situated towards the front of the lens, is well ribbed for grip and turns smoothly. The lens uses eight seals on the barrel to protect it from rain, dust and splashes of water when shooting outdoors.

During that time he has worked with a range of leading brands, as well as a host of professional photographers within the industry. Between you and me I was a bit afraid to use this lens too much for street photography because I didn’t want it to start affecting the way I shoot, it’s that good! The exterior of the lens is weather and dust-resistant and can work in temperatures as low as -10°C. Both rings have some really good yet smooth resistance giving the lens a very solid feel in the hand. If this is about 6" (15cm) on your screen, printing the complete image at this same high magnification would result in a 40 x 60" (100 x 150 cm) print! This is not a lens I would mount if I wanted to smear some ghosting across the frame, but if I needed to shoot towards the sun without ghosting, it’s an excellent choice. For me, the f2 is very interesting because I’m often shooting in environment where any sound from the camera can potentially ruin my shot. The max f/2 f-stop is still sufficient for low-light photography to a certain degree and will create a nice blurred background for portraits when shot wide open. It’s great, results from this lens are very satisfying for me and I don’t have any complains for AF on my X-T10.
