Description

On the underside, there’s some smooth PTFE glide pads which makes this a joy to use, especially given how smooth using it is. Performance

Side note: I wouldn't recommend this mouse, or any MMO/MOBA mouse, for real-time strategy (RTS) games like StarCraft II. The extremely high APM (Actions per Minute) those games require to be successful on a competitive level aren't helped much by having your mouse hand's thumb getting in on the action. A single battery charge lasts up to 150 hours just like the Naga Pro. In terms of durability, its IP54-rated Aquabarrier is said to protect against spills and debris, which should keep it safe despite the open mesh design. Should you buy it? SteelSeries has developed popular wireless gaming mice that are recommended by esports pros and affordable to everyone. A wireless gaming mouse from SteelSeries offers lag-free latency and durability to maximize value for gamers without having to pay top dollar. Ergonomic wireless gaming mice designs for pro gamers Despite that puzzling quirk, the Aerox 9 Wireless is loaded with customization potential. Every time I load up a game, I find myself playing a little metagame where I spend a few minutes creating the perfect profile. It’s a perfect gaming mouse for control freaks. Our take

Aerox 9 Wireless’s biggest competitor is the Razer Naga X, which features 16 programmable buttons, optical switches, and Razer’s 5G Advanced Optical Sensor. It is also lighter than the Aerox 9 Wireless at 85 grams, but it is a wired mouse, so the extra bit of fat on the Steelseries is almost negligible. It's fair to say that the mouse has a steep learning curve. I'm sure that dedicated players will eventually figure out where each button is, and maybe even feel comfortable enough to assign multiple shortcuts to each key. But even after using the Aerox 9 Wireless for a few days, it was harder to play FFXIV with the mouse than without it. Compare and contrast to a mouse like the Razer Naga Pro, which lets you customize the number of buttons on the side panel. SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless review: Verdict The right-handed shape of the Aerox 9 Wireless is designed for a player’s highest demand for lightweight precision and comfort. The last piece of the puzzle, of course, is power. According to the manufacturer, the Aerox 9 Wireless lasts for up to 180 hours on a charge when connected via Bluetooth (with the three-zone RGB lighting turned off), or up to 80 hours with a 2.4GHz connection. Naturally, leaving the lights on will cut that in half or more. I got three to four days of intermittent use from each charge. When you need to top off the battery, the mouse has a USB-C charging port in the usual spot up front.

Of course, all your configurations will be run through the SteelSeries Swarm software. I have my own gripes about this program; it's a very crowded affair, with a swathe of product ads to wade through before you can easily find your own gear. Still, it's comprehensive and will give tinkerers plenty to play with when fine-tuning their experience. The SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless keeps things simple with a total of three lighting zones that offer bright and vibrant lighting, which is easy to see with the mouse’s open housing. It’s perhaps some of the brightest I’ve had the pleasure of using on a gaming mouse, too. We've converted this review to Test Bench 1.2. This update simplifies our Weight test and expands on our CPI test from Test Bench 1.1, resulting in changes to test results in both sections. This 12-button panel is the unique selling point of the Aerox 9 Wireless. However, it's also the mouse's weakest feature. Each of the 12 buttons is small and has precisely the same shape. Only the 5 button has a small bump to differentiate it from the rest. In theory, this bump helps users orient themselves. In practice, however, it's not large or distinctive enough to help navigate the buttons during the heat of in-game battle. Even after a few days with the mouse, I could barely tell where any button was, save for the four at the outermost edges. SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless review: Features

Speaking of the wireless connection, the SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless works over both Bluetooth and the bundled 2.4GHz USB receiver. Both means were solid, with little noticeable latency, although the best experience was provided over the receiver as opposed to Bluetooth. You can also connect the mouse up via USB-C, but that’s seemingly only for charging, as opposed to using it as more of a wired mouse. Redesigned lighting provides 3 zones of 16.8 million beautifully crisp colors that can synchronize with other SteelSeries products. Choose from millions of colors and effects from reactive lighting to interactive light shows that bring RGB to the next level. Combined with these good looks, this is also a well built and especially sturdy mouse that justifies its price. It’s made from hard plastics that don’t feel soft or horrible. There’s not much in the way of rattling or anything of the sort. The Aerox 9 Wireless can be customized using the Steelseries GG companion software. You have the usual features to tinker around with, including setting upto 5 CPI levels, adjust mouse acceleration/deceleration, set the polling rate, and more.Inside, there’s one of SteelSeries’ own TrueMove Air sensors, which outputs 18,000 DPI, and makes the SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless a nippy mouse. This proved to be the case during testing when I booted up Planetside 2 for the first time in a while, and took full advantage of that sensitivity when trying to murder enemies as best I could. Like its aforementioned competitors, it does this adeptly, giving you a whole numpad worth of keys to customize to your liking. That's more than enough to contain about 1 and ½ World of Warcraft hotkey bars, every single League of Legends input (with room to spare), or similar numbers of inputs from Final Fantasy XIV, DOTA 2, Lost Ark, Guild Wars 1 or 2, Heroes of the Storm, etc. That’s the approach SteelSeries has taken with the Aerox 9 Wireless, which weighs just 89g, is wireless, and provides similar functionality to many of the best gaming mice for MMOs out there today. The Naga Pro has a better sensor, an extra button, and modular side plates for the same price. However, the Aerox 9 wins by a mile when it comes to weight. How long will it last?

Our mice such as the Aerox 5 Wireless use a powerful system called Quantum 2.0 Wireless, which allows either a 2.4GHz connection or Bluetooth 5.0 for most devices. While we recommend using a dongle for that easy 2.4GHz for lag-free gaming, sometimes you may want to opt for Bluetooth, especially for non-gaming tasks or on your other devices. An example of the GG software's convoluted front end from my time with the Aerox 5 Wireless Michael Gariffo -- Steelseries What never stopped being a problem was the SteelSeries GG software, which continued to irk me with the overly bloated, unnecessary and unrelated extra sections I mentioned in my Aerox 5 Wireless review. At least it does a good job of making the already flexible selection of side buttons even more adaptable. Once you actually drill down to the menu where you can remap them, that is. Our wireless gaming mice are made to last long and look good doing it. With features like long-lasting battery life, fast-charging capability, customizable LED lighting, programmable buttons, and mechanical switches make SteelSeries wireless gaming mice the best in esports. Get the wireless gaming mouse the esports pros use Software is taken care of with SteelSeries clever GG suite, which really comes into its own with a mouse like the Aerox 9 Wireless. All of the mouse buttons (including those contained on the keypad) can be programmed easily, as well as the RGB lighting itself. If you aren't sure how to Bluetooth connect to your PC, we'll show you how to Bluetooth connect your SteelSeries Aerox mouse.
