The bottles were originally put to use as glass water bottles. But, it turned out, that the bottles were more than perfect for carbonated drinks, as releasing the marble from the wide mouth of the bottle served to release the pressure of the carbonation inside once opened. From that time in Japan, soda with a crown cap became known as “Cider”, while soda with a marble cap became known as Ramune. For today’s recipe, I am adding fresh lemon juice to it to give it a yummy citrus flavour. It is so refreshing on a hot day but can also be served warmand drunk on a cold day! Why You Will Love This Amazake Recipe With its light flavor with floral undertones, elderflower lemonade is a refreshing summer drink. It is super speedy and simple to make, and is a great way to take your traditional lemonade recipe to the next level! Perfect for a hot and humid summer’s day, chilled lemon lime ramune has been loved for over a century. A citrusy, sweet and refreshing must-try soda!

But how has this drink been able to overcome the test of time to become one of the most beloved drinks in Japan? Keep reading to find out the origins of Japanese ramune. If you’re visiting Japan outside of the summer festival period in either spring, autumn, or winter, be sure to pay a visit Don Quijote! It may not sound like it at first from the name, but Don Quijote is a local Japanese megastore. It has EVERYTHING. It’s the perfect location to scout out some delicious ramune at any time of the year! Crazy Japanese flavors might be nothing new to locals. But this unusual flavor might be a little out of left field for your average Japanese drink fan. Mixing the flavors of salty clam chowder and sweet and refreshing ramune couldn’t have been easy, but the ramune makers of Japan were up to the challenge! In the beginning you don’t need more than those 30g, because in a favorable environment (relatively hard water and enough food (sugar, nitrogen) for the yeast & bacteria) water kefir grows fast. An increase of 25% is almost happening and I have seen it doubling often as well. All you need is relatively hard water, sugar and some dried fruits. My marble was super clear and pretty✨I like looking through the marble because everything looks upside down. Try it and I bet you’ll like it, too. Water kefir doesn’t like metal, so use glass and plastic utensils when dealing with the grains (strainer, funnel, jars etc.).

Here at TokyoTreat, we’ve done extensive research on how awesome ramune is and its extensive history! Not only is the soda delicious, but the lemon-line candy is a treat as well! Let’s dig deeper into what makes ramune so great! The History of Ramune – The Much-Loved Japanese Lemonade Our Family got bigger. Unfortunate for the grandparents and the girls it is not another baby – only water kefir. It lives happily together with all the other jars and containers that are bubbling and fermenting whatever is inside and produces continuously yummy, healthy lemonade. Born in northeastern Scotland, Alexander Cameron Sim (1840 – 1900) could be considered the grandfather of ramune in Japan. After starting his career as a pharmacist in a London hospital, he joined the British Royal Navy in 1866.Pro Tip: Keep an eye out on the map for a local shrine in particular if you’re in Japan around August, as the majority of these festivals take place near and around neighborhood shrines, temples, or other traditional communal meeting spots. Now that we’ve covered what Ramune soda is and where it came from, let’s look at a few of the most common questions we hear asked about Ramune. Why is there a marble in Ramune? If kept in a covered jug in the refrigerator, your homemade lemonade will stay good to drink for up to 7 days. Squeeze the citrus: Once you've gathered your yuzu fruit, it's time to extract all that lovely tangy nectar. Roll the yuzu firmly on a flat surface using gentle pressure to help release the juices. Then, cut the fruit in half and use a juicer or your hands to squeeze out every last drop of liquid gold. Strain the juice to remove any seeds or pulp, ensuring a smooth and refreshing lemonade. Juice all the lemons into the measuring cup using the lemon juicer. Make sure to remove any seeds that fall into the juice.
