Ms. Fanservice: Not Daphne in this episode, but Velma when she’s disguised as Jane and dressed in a hula girl outfit in the episode, she looks quite alluring. Latex Perfection: A creepy old man that is suspected as the villain turns out to be an undercover police officer in a rubber mask. The costume was worn by a criminal that Mystery Incorporated captured and brought to justice. The costume was then donated to the Coolsonian Criminology Museum. As Shaggy is telling Fred about his encounter with the Ghost of Geronimo, the additional equipment in the Mystery Machine is missing. When Shaggy says "But [Simms] was at the Luau with us!", Velma says "No," when in fact, he was. It is likely she answered to the gist of Shaggy's statement rather than exactly what he said.

LEGO Scooby-Doo!: Blowout Beach Bash: Ghost of Captain Bash | Ghost of Bingo Belle | Dr. Najib | Deputy & SherrifAs Fred is announcing to Daphne and Velma that they've arrived on Beach Boulevard, his teeth turn flesh coloured as his mouth half closes. He was satisfied to see that his henchman had captured a lot of dogs. He also warned the Scooby gang to leave the deserted Indian Village while shaking his maracas after they first encountered him. The asset that came off least was the very limited and somewhat forgettable character of the giant statue Mano Tiki Tia. The Witch Doctor however is an excellent main ghost, if not quite as eerie as the Headless Spectre or as iconic as The Creeper, and makes quite a scare in his first entrance. The story is on the daft side, but also lots of fun, easy to follow with some nice diverting clues and a great red herring involving a suspicious old man and the Hawaiian setting is both exotic and eerie.

The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo: Bogel and Weerd | Werewolves | Maldor the Malevolent | Queen Morbidia | Reflector Specter | Zomba | Captain Ferguson | Nekara | Marcella | Time Slime | Demondo | Rankor | Professor Phantazmo | Zimbulu Simms's teeth are flesh-coloured when he refuses to say anything after Fred tries to get him to agree to what he did. He and his boss wanted to scare people away so they wouldn't discover their pearl poaching operation. He posed as the Witch Doctor at the luau to warn people to stay away and fabricate an alibi for Simms. He then posed as Mano Tiki Tia while Simms took over as the Witch Doctor. Simms, as the Witch Doctor, does not appear to be very intelligent or perceptive (especially strange for a journalist/tour guide), as he falls for Velma Dinkley, Shaggy Rogers, and Scooby-Doo's disguises, and is also easily scared by Shaggy and Scooby covered in leaves.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

When there is the scene of the witch imitating Scooby's movements as a mirror reflection, when Scooby raises his left paw to scratch his head, the witch also raises her left hand instead of her right.

The costume was put on display at the Coolsonian Criminology Museum. It was stolen, but not brought to life by the Evil Masked Figure. Due to toon physics, Shaggy can survive unharmed being run down by a wild boar, and falling out of a tree with Scooby and Velma landing on top of him. Bait-and-Switch: When they encounter a ghost drum that both moves and plays by itself, it appears to be involved with the Witch Doctor; but it’s soon revealed to be just Scooby Doo hiding inside the drum. While Scooby has his head out of the crate, two of the holes have simply been covered in brown even if it doesn't match Scooby's movements. There is another instance of how a rigged skeleton (or in some cases just a skull) may be, in fact, real.
