A virus spreads across the world, transforming all humankind into wild, slavering, furry beasts- cats, to be precise. Volume 2 also did a great job wrapping up the prologue and I’m so excited to see where our characters go now! It's a testament to the mangaka's talent that they can take something as seemingly innocent as cats and turn it into a terrifying apocalyptic nightmare.

However, a new manga takes the zombie genre in a brave new direction by making the zombies into cats.

Kunagi, a man with no memory of his past yet a deep knowledge of cats, struggles to hold on with only his wits and a will to survive. Rhymer probably worked very hard to make the original dialogue at least readable and probably that it was originally atrocious.

This is made worse as the cats can spread the virus merely by nuzzling and cuddling, making it very hard to defend yourself against the crafty felines once a horde finds and surrounds you.

The survivors are constantly on the run, trying to avoid being mauled by the cats that have taken over the world.

This manga series continues to be a splendid spoof of Night of the Walking Dead with often times over dramatic characters who find themselves occasionally almost succumbing to the horde of feline overlords. But when a peculiar white kitty with a large jewel produces an earsplitting screech, all the cats in the city converge on their location! In fact, Night of the Living Cat seems to heavily pull inspiration from the aesthetic of Mad Max and other post-apocalyptic dieselpunk movies. While there was a moment in the first book reminded me of The Mist, there’s moments in this book that remind me of World War Z.
