Fast recovery speed — Pro Mode Audio™ offers greater ability to pick out good targets amid trash and fast recovery speed on multiple targets. The AT Pro waterproof detector excels in various environments ranging from dry land to items submerged underwater. The whole detector and control box can be dunked underwater down to ten feet, but only with waterproof headphones, which aren't included. In the photo above, you can visually see that with the iron discrimination set to 20, all targets under 20 are silent with the Iron Audio set to the off position.

Pro Mode Audio™: Proportional Audio and Tone Roll Audio™ features allow the user to hearcharacteristics of a target as they would in a True All-Metal Mode. We never actually had a low battery problem in the entirety of testing the Garrett Pro, perhaps unsurprising given the 4 AA batteries the detector takes.

This is a really nice high quality general metal detector that is good for beginners and pros alike. It includes an additional benefit of much faster recovery time when detecting targets near each other. In a nutshell, it helps decrease false signals and “chatter” from the machine and increases accuracy. A common technique is to first auto ground balance the machine and then “tweak” the auto setting a bit.

Detecting Types of Metal: This detector identifies and differentiates various metal objects, including precious metals like gold and silver. My ACE 250 also often turns into a guest detector for the friends that would like to try metal detecting, but haven’t bought their own machine yet. Then when you become more advanced with your machine you can move into one of the the three “professional” modes that provide more customizable features. The Tone Roll Audio provides you with the most audible target information and will help classify targets, particularly iron targets.

Assembly is kept as simple as possible and you do not need a degree in engineering to put it together. You can use the plus (+) or minus (-) iron discrimination touchpads to accurately set the iron discrimination to one of 40 levels. Most have a limit on how far the signal will reach, so you should keep this in mind when you are making your selection. It is important to note that the blue waterproof headphones shown above (optional) must be used if the headphones are to be immersed in water. For separating desirable targets from iron junk in cluttered areas, this model features 40 points of iron discrimination. The AT Pro International version has a broader range of Iron discrimination and a better tonal band for our older coinage. One thing that should be pointed out: on my AT PRO the shafts have locking collars… After a year of hunting with the ACE 250, there appeared a play in its shafts.
