Description

The same shooter, using the same gun, will be faster on target and can use that time to make a better shot. That’s why every competition holster made today is synthetic. Unless you are shooting in a Cowboy Action match (which are loads of fun), you won’t see any leather holsters on the firing line. Once you have your Kydex cutting jig, there are a few things to keep in mind when using it. First, always use a sharp blade. A dull blade will cause your cuts to be less precise and can even damage the Kydex material. Second, take your time and make sure that each cut is made slowly and deliberately. Rushing your cuts will only result in sloppy results. Kydex® has also been used in an exciting new project with the NHS. Like many healthcare organisations across Europe, The Hull NHS Foundation Trust needs to deliver carbon reductions, save money and at the same time provide environments that are built around patient needs. Avoid placing holes for mechanical fasteners close to the edges of parts. Locating fasteners further away from edges results in more durable joints. Use a heat gun to evenly heat the surface of the Kydex. Be careful not to overheat the Kydex, as this can cause warping.

Parts formed from sheet will be rigid and will see moderate deformation when loaded. This is of particular importance in deep formed parts with thin wall sections. In use in various forms since the mid-1800s, injection molding utilizes a blend of molten materials (most often a nylon polymer) injected into a mold. This process lends itself to volume production, lower manufacturing costs and consistency. The tradeoff is overall quality where an injection-molded holster can wear out faster than a Kydex counterpart and may not exhibit the precise fit of the more expensive alternative.

Always use a sharp blade. A dull blade will create a rough edge on the kydex and make it more difficult to cut through.

KYDEX® sheet is resistant to a broad range of disinfectant cleaners. View technical brief Chemical Resistance of KYDEX® Thermoplastic Sheet and Disinfectants and Chemical Reagents Testing technical bulletin for additional information. Are KYDEX® Thermoplastics REACH compliant? If you’re considering cutting Kydex with a Dremel, there are a few things you should know first. While a Dremel can be a great tool for cutting Kydex, it’s not the easiest tool to use and it can be dangerous if you’re not careful. Here are a few tips to help you cut Kydex safely and effectively with a Dremel: KYDEX® 100– Rigid, tough, durable, plastic alloy sheet available in a wide range of standard and custom colors, textures, and sheet sizes. It is Underwriters Laboratories® Inc. recognized for UL Std 94 V-0, 5V and has 961 J/m (18 ft-lbs/in) Notched Izod impact resistance. Although a jigsaw can be used to cut Kydex, it is not the ideal tool for the job. A jigsaw will not give you a clean, straight cut, and it can create a lot of heat that can damage the plastic. If you must use a jigsaw, make sure to use a low speed setting and a fine-toothed blade designed for cutting plastic. It’s also a good idea to clamp your Kydex down so it doesn’t move while you’re cutting it. A wide variety of materials can be used to safely clean KYDEX® sheet. However, certain aggressive cleaning agents may damage the material. Technical Brief 160-A and Technical Brief 160-B provide guidelines for cleaning KYDEX® sheet. What are the chemical resistance characteristics of KYDEX® Thermoplastic sheet?

One of the most popular methods for finishing Kydex is to use a heat gun. This method is simple, and it produces great results. Suitable for use in aircraft interiors, mass transit vehicle interior components, equipment housing, medical products, kiosk housing, shopfitting and various display applications.

Kydex Finishing Techniques

KYDEX® sheet is stronger, stiffer, more impact resistant, and more chemically resistant than either ABS or HIPS. KYDEX® sheet also has superior flammability characteristics compared with ABS or HIPS. Technical Brief 150-A, Technical Brief 150-B, Technical Brief 150-C, Technical Brief 150-D, and Technical Brief 150-Eprovide detailed information on the correct adhesives, solvent cements, and tapes to use with KYDEX® sheet.
