That’s what is so cool about composting, you can do it anywhere, and there are so many different ways. And the decomposed pet waste and other material you add to your composter will improve the soil below the surface. I have quite a few friends with the dibilitating disease and have had a dog with kidney damage because of it. However, the best thing would be to phone your local water treatment facility and ask them whether they are happy for you to do so, or not.

Other wise I have these mini dry bags that I use though again puvc lining on nylon, hoever, around 20 years old now and may as well use them a chuck them.

Before you get started, layer the bottom of your Pet Compost Bucket with a handful of Bokashi Plus compost accelerator. It may be possible to use it under large shrubs or trees, but to be safe, children must not have access. Composting your pet’s poop does not just help your garden, your yard, and the environment, it’s also good for your dog. Inventor and retired engineer Brian Harper launched his dog-poo powered biogas street lamp on a beautiful trail in England’s Malvern Hills.

When it’s done fermenting, bury the entire contents of the bucket in your garden and leave it for 2-4 weeks. I would think it was too much of a health risk, unless you were prepared to leave the bed empty for a couple of years (which I guess you’re not! Def do it when they’re infants tho, and for a few months if they’re rescues, because their history may be unknown. The holes need to be large enough to allow air to reach your composter, but not large enough to allow soil to fall through. Because of all the parasites and bacteria that dog poop can contain, the compost system needs to get up to 165°F for at least five days to kill them all. I want to set up a wormery for my dog’s poo and I was wondering if it is possible/advisable to do it on a patio, so not buried?

Unfortunately during the process of adding the septic starter my lovely dog bumped me and I fell in the hole, so the entire bottle of septic starter was added. If smell is an issue or you want it to break down faster then it could be an idea :) I know it designed for cats and dogs so I would say, skip the green thing but get the bran. They have dung beetles in the ground in Margaret River and you are right – it IS fascinating (albeit also a little bit weird) to watch!I would also plan to, providing the set-up worked well, expand the set-up so I had many garden beds and allow the community to dispose of the dog waste, here. You will also need two bins, one to contain the composting materials and one to actively compost in, a shovel to turn the compost, a long-stemmed thermometer, and a water supply. EnsoPet Starter is made in Australia using a mixture of wheat, sawdust and minerals combined with a group of micro-organisms.

I like the dog poo worm farm set-up (as opposed to digging holes in the ground every time there is something to dispose of) because there is one spot where everything goes. Also have heard that putting a dead rodent in the tank can attract maggots and they will help reduce the volume? If you are using corn starch based bags you can simply drop the bag into the composter, if not you will need to put the poop in without the bag. Even though our three Min Pins are small getting rid of their poo means putting it in the dustbin and adding to landfill each week. I would rather give my pup medicine that will kill tiny disease carrying deer ticks than have her suffer through Lyme disease.
