It has a little bit of cool - warm s p h e r o c h r o m a t i s m, but nothing to get excited about: If you're not getting ultra-sharp pictures with this, be sure not to shoot at f/11 or smaller where all lenses are softer due to diffraction, always shoot at ISO 100 or below because cameras become softer at ISO 200 and above, avoid shooting across long distances over land which can lead to atmospheric heat shimmer, be sure everything is in perfect focus, set your camera's sharpening as you want it (I set mine to the maximum 7,5,5) and be sure nothing is moving, either camera or subject. If you want to ensure a soft image with any lens, shoot at f/16 at ISO 1,600 at default sharpening in daylight of subjects at differing distances in the same image. Sigma's teleconverters are not available for E-mount, however, and Sony restricts its converters to Sony lenses. This lens is designed for hand-held shooting, so pull off the collar and leave it in the box for resale. VR ( Vibration Reduction) lets me hand-hold at almost any speed for when I need depth of field. No tripod needed! This 70-200 FL is a huge improvement over the old 70-200/2.8 VR II from 2009 because it weighs less and focuses much closer. While the rated close-focus distances aren't that much different, older 70-200s cheated and didn't really go to 200mm at close distances. This new FL lens really is 200mm at close distances. Since this new 70-200 FL doesn't cheat on 200mm, it gets what seems like twice as close when you need it.

Nano Crystal Coat (N): an anti-reflection coating which varies its index of refraction continuously to achieve even greater reflection reduction. It's probably only on one surface, and is used mostly for marketing purposes. A bayonet hood would be more convenient, even if it meant dropping the rubber bumper that's at the front of the lens barrel. It's an uncommon feature that adds a bit of protection to the front element and filter ring, at the slight cost of some filter compatibility. Regular 77mm filters are not an issue with the lens, but the bumper might interfere with specialized filters like the H&Y RevoRing Variable ND; its adjustable threads can't get close enough to thread in.
