Description

The first thing you have to do is to align it with the optical tube, so when you are looking through it, and the red dot is on the object, you want to see the same object in the eyepiece of the telescope.

If you could paraphrase the section of the book, that would be great. I need to be careful though, as I don't want to invalidate the warranty by opening things up. Very pleased with how this turned out. I found out my alt-az mount could take much longer exposures than I expected I had a go at my favourite deep-sky object the Orion Nebula You’ll need to enter the country and city you’re in. You’ll also be required to input the date and local time. You’ll enter all these through the numeric computerized hand control. Chris - your mags will be x26 and x33 - not very much for planetary work. (You normally get something like a 10 and a 25, I think. A 10mm would give you x65 - still not much for a short focal length 'scope.) Mars will look very, very small at those mags - you need longer focal length eyepieces. Jupiter will look a little better/bigger with what you have. Replacing the battery on the finderscope is very difficult, mainly because of the plastic cover. The end cap doesn’t fit very well and kept popping off. I had to resort to lining the inside rim of the cap with electrical tape. Also agree with mount issues.Use the red dot finder to locate any bright object in the sky. The object can even be the moon or any bright planet.

What more can one ask for? I believe this and the other telescopes in the Nextstar range will be able to painlessly introduce many newcomers to the night sky. They deserve to sell in large numbers and Celestron are to be congratulated not only in coming up with a brilliant way to align a computerised scope but providing this new software in a worthwhile aperture scope at a very reasonable price. Well done!" The Celestron NexStar SLT mount is a pretty simple, inexpensive alt-azimuth mount that moves up and down, left-to-right. To use it, you enter the time, date, and your location, then sight the telescope on any two or three bright stars. The mount can then map out the rest of the sky and point the telescope at any object of your choosing. This is fairly standard for most GoTo mounts. The SLT mount uses a Vixen dovetail saddle, so you can easily swap in other telescopes with Vixen dovetail bars if you wish, provided they don’t exceed the SLT mount’s capacity or crash into the base. This battery compartment is a nice feature because, for example, with the SkyWatcher model, you have a funny battery bag hanging off the telescope rather than an internal battery compartment. You may also like: Why Can’t I See Anything Through My Telescope? Included eyepieces and red dot finder Reflectors use concaved mirrors to collect light with the mirror diameter referring to its aperture. As large mirrors are relatively inexpensive to manufacture, reflector telescopes tend to be cheaper than similarly sized Refractor or Catadioptric telescopes giving excellent value for money. Specifications:All in all, I’ve had a lot of pleasure using the SLT 130 and I would consider it a good scope for the beginner or someone who may not be ready for the cost of a better setup. For more clarification, you can get between 60x and 167x magnification with the 127 SLT, depending on the eyepiece you use. While it’s impossible to say that Celestron didn’t make any compromises, I can say the NexStar 130 SLT telescope surpassed my expectations. I therefore think you're right and I'm sure you're dealer will honour the Celestron guarantee : after all, he should be able to reclaim the costs. The mount uses 8 AA batteries that are not included (weird that one). The battery tray is conveniently placed in the arm of the mount.

View the details of the lunar surface, the rings of Saturn, the polar ice caps on Mars, the cloud belts on Jupiter or a number of the Messier objects such as the globular cluster in Hercules (M13), or the Great Nebula in Orion (M42). Begin to explore some of the fainter Messier objects using the additional light-gathering capabilities of the 130 SLT`s 5" primary mirror. Because of the Newtonian design, the mirror gives fully color-corrected views that are best suited for astronomical use. While the telescope’s Go To function may not always be 100% accurate, you can easily make manual adjustments to ensure precise viewing. The focuser, although poorly engineered, can be adjusted with set screws to minimize any play. The tripod is aluminium rather than steel. I am not convinced that this would make much difference; the 130 SLT tripod is very light anyway. It might be easier to fill the aluminium tripod with sand! Part Number: 31145-CGL The Celestron 130 SLT includes a fully computerised GOTO hand control which enables you to automatically slew to any of it’s 4,000+ objects, including over 600 galaxies, 300 clusters and dozens of beautiful binary stars. The telescope comes with a red dot finder. It is a small finder scope with no magnification that helps to locate the object in the sky. It has a small lens at the front and little red LED light. How bad are the vibrations after tweaking the focuser? That could be a really major deficiency, no? I've had scopes before in which that was a real nuisance, especially at high power. Have you found any work arounds? Image Quality: The 130mm reflector and fully computerized Altazimuth mount of the telescope contribute to good image quality. With proper alignment and adjustments, you can expect clear and detailed views of celestial objects. It may not look like much of a difference when you compare the two, but the 130 SLT will definitely be able to gather more light in comparison.

To truly appreciate the performance and image quality of the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT telescope, you’ll need to spend some time familiarizing yourself with its features and making adjustments as needed. Here are some key points to consider: This computerized hand control enables you to automatically slew to any of 40,000 celestial objects with the push of a button. The NexStar+ database includes more than 600 galaxies, 300 clusters and dozens of beautiful binary stars. Not sure what to observe? Choose the Sky Tour feature and the NexStar+ hand control will automatically generate a list of all the best celestial objects currently visible based on your exact time and location. SkyAlign TechnologyCamera Bags & Cases Camera Bag Accessories Camera Bags Lenses Mirrorless Camera Lenses DSLR Lenses Lens Filters Lens Accessories A: To set up the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT, simply attach the telescope tube to the mount, insert the eyepiece and power on the telescope. Follow the on-screen instructions to align the telescope. Q: What can I see with the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT? Additionally, the included eyepieces are budget quality and may not provide the best viewing experience. Upgrading to higher quality eyepieces may be necessary for optimal viewing. The Apertura AD10/Zhumell Z10/Orion SkyLine 10 has 4 times as much light gathering and double the resolving power of the NexStar 130SLT and features a stable, easy-to-aim manual Dobsonian base. As with the AD8/Z8, this scope features a huge variety of included accessories as well as built-in features like a dual-speed 2” Crayford focuser and a cooling fan for the primary mirror. Well it definitely sounds by now to be a warranty job unless anyone else has a better idea but as a last ditched stand, I'll paraphrase that section of Mike's book for you.
