Description

Cat 6 cable consists of four twisted pairs of copper wires that are tightly wound together to minimize signal interference. Each pair of wires is color-coded and insulated, and the pairs are also individually twisted to further reduce crosstalk. The cable typically has an RJ-45 connector at each end, which is the standard connector used for Ethernet connections. Advantages of Cat 6 Cable Using a flat head screwdriver tip, press the “wings” downward to get the crimp started. Place the plug into the ground tab crimp cavity at the rear of the termination tool. In addition, shielded cable, while not excessively heavy, can become weighty if you are running a lot of cables in one area. Heavy cabling run above a ceiling or behind a wall has been known to cause structural damage. How did I know that the cable in question would work with this plug? I knew how to Select the Correct Connector. Notes on Cat6 and Cat6A Shielded plugs in general: Before you place your cable into the stripping tool, adjust the blade all the way up since it may be too low and cut too deeply. You need to do this only once at the start of your session.

Our kenable Cat6 FTP outdoor cable is designed with FULL COPPER 23AWG twisted pairs and is Foil Shielded to ensure any interference is kept under control it also has a drain wire so can be earthed! Our cat 6 FTP cables also have a divider to separate the twisted pairs reducing cross talk. Our older pass through crimp and termination tool (V1) is not compatible with these Cat6/6A Shielded Pass Through RJ45 Connectors. The strain latch presser bar on that tool will crush the rear of your shielded plug. We will demonstrate this termination with trueCABLE Cat6A Shielded Riser Ethernet cable. This cable has been fitment and performance tested when using our Cat6/6A Shielded Pass Through Plug .Once you have terminated both ends of your cable run, it is time for testing. There are a number of tools to accomplish this, and the easier and more informative the test is, the more expensive it will be. Take a look at this blog for tips on dealing with issues: Basic Network Cable Troubleshooting: What Did I Do Wrong? The bonus benefit of staggering conductors is reduction of crosstalk. As Ethernet cable frequency exceeds 350 MHz, crosstalk starts to become an issue of particular concern. All the better if the plug’s physical design also reduces the crosstalk phenomenon. Multiple ways to bond the cable shield and/or drain wire to the metal housing of the RJ45 male plug to ensure a good ground path. This part was necessary, as I wanted it to be easy to work with. The next step is to flush cut the conductors so they go into the load bar evenly. Carefully, while keeping the conductor color sequence correct, “choke” upward the conductors to remove about 0.75 inch. Flush cut straight across. From here on out, I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves with a bit of additional guidance. Step 1:

You may already have decided that you need Category 6 Cable. Buying Cat6 cable means you will be able to receive up to 1 Gbps Ethernet transmission. Plus, Cat6 is essential for 1000 Base-T style networks. So far, so good. A Cat6 patch lead or cable, also known as a straight-through cable, is used for connecting devices of different types, like a computer to a switch or hub.

Cat6e Cables

Designing an easy-to-use and effective large, shielded RJ45 plug is no small task. Here were our primary design targets:

Do I need STP Cat6a cable? If one or more of the following common scenarios applies, then the shielded cable is suggested: Written by Don Schultz, trueCABLE Technical Sales Representative & Fluke Networks Certified Technician Now switch to the smaller “finish” cavity. Again, the plug latch-side should be down. Fully cycle the handle lever to complete the crimp.

But which type of Cat6 do you require? Essentially, the choice of whether to use unshielded twisted pairs (UTP) or shielded (or screened) twisted pairs (STP or ScTP) largely depends on where you're installing the cable. Ethernet crossover cable on the other hand is used for connecting two types of the same device together e.g. two computers. When Do I Need Cat6 Plenum Cable? Cable Stripping & Cutting Tool (optional but recommended-- our All-In-One Crimp and Termination Tool has a very good cable stripper on it, but ultimately, the dedicated cut & strip tool is more versatile) We recommend to use faceplates with full copper cables as oppose to crimping them for our plates see the QS numbers below: Can you use our Cat6/6A shielded external ground plug on another manufacturer’s cable? Sure, but first, you should make certain that your cable will fit onto our RJ45 plug. The whole “category” thing is very misleading unless the cable and RJ45 plug are made by the same manufacturer, as is trueCABLE. We stamp a Category on the bag because we go the extra step of confirming fitment and performance with our cable. If your Ethernet cable is of a different brand, you need to ensure fitment. A great resource is Selecting the Correct Connector .
