For the whipped cream, glue a small mound of quilt batting to the center and cover with ¾-inch lengths of pipe cleaner in varying colors, securing with fabric glue.

Glue one sheet of cut tissue paper to either side of a straw. Then glue the cupcake liner portion to the top of the straw tissue paper. Glue ribbon to the top center of the dowel (leave extra ribbon hanging like a fishing pole). Wrap the remaining ribbon around the toilet paper roll and tape it down. Make three to four lines on the shirt using the red tape. Adhere each strip about 2 to 3 inches apart. Every toddler’s favourite! Perfect for a simple but fun nursery costume. All you need is circles of card – or paper plates. Kids love to help make this one.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll remember the World Book Day costume at about 10pm on Wednesday, March 2. This year, our nursery school has decided to combine both World Book Day with Comic Relief on Friday. Not only is a book character costume required but a funny book at that. Our almost 4 year old immediately said (unsurprisingly) “ Princess Anna! She’s funny!”. After explaining that didn’t really count because Frozen is a film –“ no it’s a book too mummy, I have it” (cue eye roll) – I set about distracting her by suggesting other books. We settled on a Little Miss character in the end, specifically the most pink one- it was always going to be someone which involved a lot of pink. A pink cardigan, jeans, her regular nursery shoes and a red bow and daisy clips later and we had her ‘costume’ sorted and handily she needed some new bits for her capsule nursery wardrobe anyway. Result! Cut the arms off the old sweatshirt. To create a polished look and to remove frayed edges, hem the arm holes with fabric glue. I love this Matilda costume from You Me & The Kids. So simple and it wouldn’t cost you a cent as you’ve probably got all of the bits at home! You could adjust the outfit a bit in terms of colours if needed and grab the book from the library if you don’t have it at home. Thank you Roger Hargreaves for endless World Book Day costume ideas! Characters like Mr Bump, Mr Messy, Little Miss Sunshine and Little Miss Chatterbox are easy to make with card and some paint. A fun one for siblings too.

If you're looking for ideas for DIY Halloween costumes for people of all ages—from kids, toddlers, and infants to adults—look no further. We used models of all ages for our DIY costume ideas, but the beauty of a DIY Halloween costume is that you can make it work for people of any size by using the right supplies. Anyone can be Little Miss Sunshine or Raining Cats and Dogs with a little elbow grease. For the drummer's hat, wrap the paper around the container to fit to size. (You want to completely cover the oatmeal container.) Trim any excess paper off the top or bottom. Secure paper to the container with two or three glue dots. A World Book Day costume classic! This quirky outfit just requires a stripy hat made from strong card, and some eyeliner whiskers. The big red bow is a fun touch and could be made from a red scarf, some old fabric or some red tissue paper.

If you're after more book-smart ideas on how to make easy World Book Day costumes, we've got you covered! Here are just some of our vital tips for making easy and affordable costumes for World Book Day: Grab some duct tape and some brown paper or an extra large paper bag and get wrapping. Add in a little cardboard crown and a bit of dirt smeared on the face and you’re done. How easy is that! Image from PlainLJayne. Thing 1 & Thing 2 (The Cat In The Hat) Book Week Costume For the pig nose, lay the bottle cap on a piece of newspaper and paint it pink. Set it aside to dry overnight.

Glue marabou trim around the cuffs, collar, and arms of a white shirt. Cut triangular ears out of the white felt and attach orange marabou trim. Glue the ears onto a headband. Cardigan and hat, F+F @ Tesco | Dress, Marks & Spencer | Gloves, John Lewis | Wellies, Next | Bag, H&M For the cape, apply liners in the same fashion, starting at the bottom edge of the cape and layering them length-wise as you make your way around the cape.Pierce a small hole in each of the side fins, thread a string of elastic through the two holes and knot the ends to secure. This will serve as the mask band. Adapt a PE or sports kit, or their school uniform - think Football Academy for sports kit, Harry Potter and St Trinian's for the uniform. This one is another great last minute book week costume idea. You can make it in about 10 minutes with things you’ve already got at home! To make the feathers, flatten and cut gold and turquoise cupcake liners into teardrop shapes. Glue turquoise to the center bottom of the gold liner.

Cover the cardboard with primer spray paint and let dry completely. Without primer, the cardboard will absorb the paint and require several coats, plus a lot of dry time in between to achieve a saturated color. This Halloween, you can put all your crafting focus on a mask: With the right DIY Halloween mask, the rest of your costume is a breeze. This DIY uses a carefully made shark mask. With this on your head, all you have to wear is gray clothing for a top-notch costume.Cut a piece of brown felt into a 5-inch circle and make the edges wavy like sauce. Add a piece of brown pleated trim around the edge, securing with fabric glue. To make the horn: Cut the party hat from point to base and roll it tighter, creating a smaller cone shape, and glue in place. Fill the cone with stuffing, then wrap the outside with purple felt. Wrap the pink cord around the cone in a spiral, gluing in place as you go. Let dry, then glue the horn to the top of the hood. Fold cupcake liners in half (or cut them in half). Starting from the bottom of the shirt or dress and working your way up, glue them to the shirt, layering them length-wise. If your little ones are at school or nursery, you can’t have missed that this Thursday 6th is World Book Day. How lovely, you might think at first; a day celebrating and encouraging literacy, reading together and enjoying books. That is, until the letter comes home from school informing you a costume is required for your little darling for this one day – help! For the cone bottom, cut a piece of elastic fishnet that hangs from the waist to the ankle. Glue the fishnet to the leggings waistband to secure.
