Description

LG has released a new addition to their monitor lineup. The 27UK650-W is an interesting monitor, marrying a 27", 16:9 4K (3840 x 2160) IPS panel with HDR 10 support. The static contrast ratio of 1000:1 means the monitor has a dynamic contrast of 5,000,000:1 (not that that particular spec matters much). The maximum brightness, however, leaves much to be desired on a HDR-enabled monitor: the LG 27UK650-W only manage to deliver 350 cd/m² brightness, which is lower than even the lowest HDR standard AMD considers as being HDR capable (a minimum brightness of 400 cd/m² is required for that). The sRGB 99% Color Gamut coverage is good, however, if not that rare a feature nowadays. The storage temperature shows the range from a minimum to a maximum temperature, within which storing of the display is considered to be safe. There are various panel technologies. Each has its own specific features - viewing angles, color reproduction, response time, brightness/contrast, production cost, etc. The image quality depends directly on the type of the display panel used.

Information about whether the stand can be dismounted. Usually, this is required for wall mounting. Information of the number of pixels in a unit of length. With the decrease of the display size and the increase of its resolution, the pixel density increases. Information about the number of pixels on the horizontal and vertical side of the screen. A higher resolution allows the display of a more detailed and of higher quality image. The operating humidity shows the acceptable level of humidity, in which the display will function flawlessly. It sets a lower and an upper humidity level for safe operation and is measured in percentage. The maximum number of colors, which the display is able to reproduce, depends on the type of the panel in use and color enhancing technologies like FRC.The pixel pitch shows the distance from the centers of two neighboring pixels. In displays, which have a native resolution (the TFT ones, for example), the pixel pitch depends on the resolution and the size of the screen.

Often even a higher peak luminance can be achieved under certain conditions. For example, when a smaller area/APL of the display is used for showing a bright object, when a bright object is displayed for a short time, etc. What we NEED right now is significantly better color and contrast. There's nearly no performance hit, and excellent color reproduction can look just as good as going from 120 to 240 Hz. I really gotta say that I am fed up with how long it is taking for decent HDR monitors and Quantum-Dot/OLED to enter the market. I don't need a 240Hz monitor lol.

You work at BID, what a legend.

Just like most 4K IPS monitors at this price range, the LG 27UK650-W is based on an IPS panelwith 10-bit color depth (8-bit + FRC), 99% sRGB color gamut, a 1,000:1 static contrast ratio, and a 350-nit peak brightness. The LG 27UK650 has a fairly ergonomic stand with up to 110mm height adjustment, -5°/15° tilt, 90° pivot, and 100x100mm VESA mount compatibility. You cannot swivel the screen to the left/right. There’s also HDR Effect (simulates HDR for non-compatible content) and pre-calibrated picture presets (FPS 1, FPS 2, RTS, Reader, Photo, Cinema, Dark Room, Color Weakness, Custom, EBU, Rec.709, SMPTE-C, HDR Vivid, HDR Standard, HDR Game, and HDR Cinema). Design & Connectivity

Overall, enabling HDR for compatible content might make some video games (mostly X1X and PS4 Pro console games) or movies look a bit better, but most of the time you will just get either oversaturated or washed out colors. For consistency, we've changed the swivel adjustment from N/A to 'No'. The score remains unchanged. For a good HDR viewing experience, we recommend a monitor that has at least VESA’s HDR600 certification though these displays are, naturally, also more expensive. Other than that, the LG 27UK650 performs quite well. It has low input lag of ~9ms which ensures no noticeable delay between your actions and the result on the screen. FeaturesOn a 27″ screen of the LG 27UK650 monitor, 4K resolution results in a high pixel-per-inch ratio of 163 PPI, which makes for a lot of screen real estate and sharp details. The static contrast shows the ratio between the brightest and the darkest color, which the display can reproduce simultaneously, for example, within one and the same frame/scene. Like the UK series, the UL series has freesync and is gsync compatible. Gsync activated fine on using my RTX 2080, with the monitor set to Freesync "Extended" mode. Keep in mind that the VRR range of this monitor is pretty narrow at 40-60 hz. Also, you will need to turn vsync on in Nvidia Control panel to avoid tearing when the framerate reaches 60fps. With gsync and vsync on, gsync will work properly, so you can enjoy tear free gameplay with minimal input lag between 40-60fps. bugNeah, HDR is about supporting a larger luminance range. You can't physically do that, if you're constrained to a limited color space to begin with.
