Description

For many Christians, their theology of God, the Father is way better than their actual experience of Him. It is a short book but packed with helpful steps and thoughts that I'm sure I will delve back into at some point. By an act of sheer will, he struggled to his feet in excruciating pain and began hopping toward the finish line. Though an extremely short book, and refreshingly simple in its message, I found it encouraging, and found some of its personal applications particularly relevant. I was inviting God to do whatever it took, no matter how long it took, to heal my heart, refine my character and release me into my fullest destiny. In Hong Kong, amongst addicts and scary gangsters and even scarier missionaries, the Father began healing my inner world, setting me on the path I’ve sought to follow ever since. Also, another slight issue I had with this book was its not a catholic one, therefore some of the authors terms and theology was a little different to my own. The story told by McClung in chapter 7 about a young man from Thailand, named Sawat, poignantly parallels the parable of the prodigal son.

If you’re looking to encounter the Father with others who are hungry for more revelation, we invite you to an upcoming Immerse focusing on this, May 13–20 in Kansas City. It ends with an appendix discussing authority, and giving general constructive criteria for finding a counsellor or therapist for those that need professional help in overcoming childhood wounds. In his work on three continents Floyd McClung has met many people who suffer from emotional scars and fears. She who experienced so much suffering at the hands of the Nazis, yet went on to great spiritual victory, once said to my friends and me, "Don't wrestle. He's a great swimmer; he just doesn't like the pressure of having to do something in front of a couple of life guards.
